Chapter 216: They're Fighting (Part 2)
"What's going on?"
Xiao Yan furrowed his brows.
The energy surging within Xiao Yi Xian's body was vast and potent so much so that even he couldn't refine it all at once. If left unchecked, her fragile body, with its mere Da Dou Shi cultivation level, would undoubtedly be torn apart.
Without hesitation, Xiao Yan pressed his palm against Xiao Yi Xian's lower abdomen, ignoring her faint blush.
Using his soul power to scan her body, he found that the Heavenly Scorpion Dragon Beast's magic core was already releasing an overwhelming amount of energy, mixed with the vitality of the Bodhi Transformation Salve.
"So that's what's happening," Xiao Yan murmured, a faintly amused smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"What's wrong?" Xiao Yi Xian curled up slightly, her soft body leaning against Xiao Yan's shoulder. Her clear eyes revealed a hint of unease as she felt the energy spreading into her meridians, causing a faint but persistent pain.
"Nothing to worry about," Xiao Yan reassured her with a smile. "It's just that your Woeful Poison Qi isn't strong enough right now to balance the other energies. That imbalance is causing the excess energy to leak out."
His explanation didn't fully soothe her, as he quickly followed up with a stern warning.
"But these energies are far too vast. With your current strength, you won't be able to contain them for long. If this continues, your body will explode."
Xiao Yi Xian's face went pale in an instant.
"If… If I don't make it, I hope you'll remember me, Xiao Yan," she said, her voice trembling as she rested weakly against him. "Even though you're shameless, flirtatious, and indecent, meeting you has been the happiest thing in my life…"
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Xiao Yan's eyes widened. He slapped her lightly on her perky rear, making her yelp in surprise.
"When did I ever say it couldn't be solved?" he said, exasperated.
"Ah?" Xiao Yi Xian froze mid sentence, her sorrowful expression turning awkward. She suddenly wished she could crawl into a hole and disappear.
"Then… what should we do?" she asked hastily, trying to change the subject.
Xiao Yan's expression remained serious, his demeanor giving her no room for relief.
"The energy is too vast for your body to handle," he explained. "The only way to solve this is to release most of it and refine the remainder."
"How do we do that?" Xiao Yi Xian bit her lip nervously, her voice trembling slightly.
"There's only one way." Xiao Yan leaned closer, whispering three words into her ear.
"We dual cultivate."
Xiao Yi Xian's body stiffened, and her delicate ears flushed red. When she looked up at Xiao Yan again, the stern expression on his face had vanished, replaced by his signature mischievous grin.
"You're always teasing me," she muttered with a pout, only to feel his warm hand sliding around her slender waist.
It was then that she realized she wasn't wearing any clothes.
"Time is of the essence," Xiao Yan said, his tone turning urgent as he began unbuttoning his shirt. "If we wait too long, even I won't be able to save you."
Meanwhile, Outside
Soul Xin stirred, her small body shifting slightly as she awoke from unconsciousness. In her half asleep state, she vaguely remembered dreaming about a pitch black vortex devouring a seven colored flame and a gray mist.
Her primary concern, though, was whether those things had tasted good.
"Eh? Where's my candy powder?" Soul Xin suddenly sat up, looking around. Her chubby little hands rummaged through the room, but her treasured jade bottle was nowhere to be found.
"It must've been taken back by Xiao Yi Xian!" she pouted indignantly.
Determined to confront Xiao Yi Xian, she waddled out of the room on her short legs, heading straight for the medicinal garden. However, upon arriving, she found the garden empty.
Turning her attention to Xiao Yi Xian's room, she noticed the door was shut tight.
She ran up to it and knocked loudly.
No response.
"Not here?" Soul Xin tilted her head in confusion, then suddenly grinned. If Xiao Yi Xian wasn't around, this was the perfect opportunity to sneak in and look for more snacks.
But no matter how hard she pushed, the door wouldn't budge.
"Locked?" she muttered, frowning. Leaning down, she tried peeking through the door crack.
What she saw made her round little face freeze in shock.
She banged on the door with all her might. "Master! Master! You can't hit Xiao Yi Xian!"
"Go away!" Xiao Yan's annoyed voice came from inside.
"You unworthy teacher! If you keep bullying Xiao Yi Xian, I won't forgive you!" Soul Xin shouted indignantly, her small fists thumping against the door.
"If you keep yelling, I'll make you go three days without food," Xiao Yan's cold voice replied.
At that, Soul Xin's face paled, and she immediately fell silent. But being a clever child, she quickly decided to seek backup.
She ran off toward Ya Fei's courtyard, yelling, "Sister Ya Fei! Sister Ya Fei! Something bad happened!"
Ya Fei's Courtyard
"Hmm? What's wrong?" Ya Fei had just finished balancing the day's ledgers and stepped outside to stretch when she saw Soul Xin running toward her, panic written all over her face.
"I saw Master hitting Xiao Yi Xian!" Soul Xin cried, her little face full of righteous indignation.
"Xiao Yan… hitting Xiao Yi Xian?" Ya Fei blinked, momentarily confused.
While she knew Xiao Yan could be mischievous, it seemed out of character for him to hurt someone like Xiao Yi Xian, whose temperament was so gentle.
"Explain it to me slowly," Ya Fei said, crouching down to Soul Xin's level. "How was he hitting her?"
"With a stick!" Soul Xin exclaimed. "Neither of them had clothes on, and Xiao Yi Xian's butt was all red!"
Ya Fei's expression froze. A faint blush crept across her face as the meaning of Soul Xin's words sank in.
This child… Where did she even learn to say such outrageous things?
"I understand," Ya Fei said, her tone resigned. "Couples have their spats it's nothing to worry about. Go play, alright?"
"What? You're not going to save her?" Soul Xin's eyes widened in disbelief. "Don't you know that if you don't help today, it'll be your turn tomorrow?"
"If I intervene, I'll just get dragged into it," Ya Fei said, rubbing her temples in exasperation. "Now, go to the kitchen. There's braised pork waiting for you."
"Really?" Soul Xin's eyes lit up, and she immediately dashed off toward the kitchen, leaving Ya Fei shaking her head.
Seven Days Later
The door to Xiao Yi Xian's room finally opened.
