They could not be as effective as true Dragon Slayer Magic, especially against an existence like the Black Dragon.

Seeing this, Caledfwlch returned to Raizel's back, while Irene, Selene, and Kurnugi also took to the air.
Raizel charged first, driving his lance toward Acnologia.
Knowing that the lance could injure him, Acnologia beat his wings and rose higher, only to be met from above by Irene and Selene's combined attack.
Their claws pressed down on his wings and forced him toward the ground again.
Acnologia's strength far surpassed Irene and Selene's, but Kurnugi, whose weight was also nothing to laugh at, shot into the sky like a sword before changing direction.
He drove the sword horn on his head straight into the area between Acnologia's wings.
Acnologia cried out in pain. Irene and Selene released him, and he crashed into the earth, smashing out a massive crater.
"Don't even think about flying away! This is the final showdown, Acnologia!"
In giant form, Natsu's arm still burned with Igneel's power of the deceased, and he punched Acnologia again.

Laxus shook out both hands.

Suddenly, Laxus felt himself getting shorter.
"My Magic Power can't hold out much longer!"
Brandish had been maintaining Laxus's giant form the entire time, and it consumed a huge amount of Magic Power.
She was not August, with Chaos Magic Power that was practically endless.
"Use this!"
Mira tore the necklace from around her neck and threw it to Brandish
It was the portable Magic Power lacrima Selene had given her. Since Mira had already opened her Second Origin, her Magic Power was still fairly abundant for now.
"Nice item! Thanks!"
Brandish grabbed the necklace with one hand and absorbed its Magic Power, then aimed her other hand at Laxus again.
Laxus's body began growing once more.
