Allyson's POV
After my lunch meeting with Kenneth ended, I found myself back inside Jade Innovations, clutching my phone as I waited for the elevator. Michael's name had appeared on my screen countless times throughout the afternoon, each missed call adding another layer of guilt to my already heavy conscience.
His text messages remained unopened, taunting me from my notification bar. I desperately needed to retreat to my office, lose myself in spreadsheets and presentations, anything to justify why I hadn't been answering his attempts to reach me.
Perhaps if I buried myself deep enough in work, the right words would eventually come to me.
The elevator bell finally rang, its doors parting with mechanical precision.
I moved to step inside, but my path was immediately blocked by someone emerging from within.
Reagan.
My entire body went rigid.
He emerged from the elevator car, his familiar gaze finding mine instantly, effectively pinning me in place.
