Standing outside Michael's apartment building at six in the morning was beyond irrational. I knew this with absolute certainty.
The rational part of my brain screamed warnings as I climbed those familiar steps. Decent people didn't ambush someone at their home without warning. Decent people called first.
But when the man who claimed to adore you suddenly vanished from your life, ignored every message, refused every call for days on end, then had the audacity to arrange another dinner only to abandon you there alone again - decency became irrelevant.
Rules ceased to exist.
Not when anxiety clawed at my chest like a living thing. Not when every instinct told me something had gone catastrophically wrong. Not when I could practically feel her presence hovering over this mess like poison. Lisha. She had orchestrated this somehow. I felt it in my bones.
I needed proof. I deserved the truth, no matter how ugly it might be.
