A moment later.
A small electric scooter hurried over.
Its tires screeched against the ground, stopping by the roadside in an extremely disheveled manner.
The person who arrived had blond hair, was wearing a suit, and had a clearly imitation leather briefcase tucked at his waist.
At a glance, he just looked like a slightly chubby young man trying to act mature.
However, after dismounting, he immediately spotted Luca and Samira, who were also standing by the roadside, carefully avoided by passersby, and spoke in a calm and polite tone.
"This must be Mr. Luca Orange, I presume? Hello, I'm Fojie Nielsen, an intern lawyer from Rand Law Firm. I've been temporarily assigned to handle this urgent situation for you."
As soon as he spoke, Luca hadn't said anything yet, but Samira questioned him with an unhappy expression.
"An intern lawyer?"
One must know that Orange Industries was a major client with a long-term partnership with Rand Law Firm. Even though currently only 14-year-old Luca had given the firm a commission, sending only an intern lawyer was a bit too dismissive of Orange Industries.
Luca himself, however, checked his watch. Less than 5 minutes had passed, and the other party was even faster than the Police from the New York Police Department. A slight smile immediately appeared on his face.
As expected, the young man named Fojie, upon hearing Samira's questioning, showed no timidity. Instead, he calmly explained.
"I was only temporarily assigned because I was closer. Ms. Simpson should already be on her way now."
"As for my role, before the Police arrive, Mr. Orange should have many things to instruct me on. I suggest we try not to waste this precious time."
At this point, it should have been Fojie, as the lawyer, who was instructing Luca, the client, on how to respond. But he inverted the statement, which made Luca look at him with renewed interest.
He then nodded and spoke first.
"Aunt Samira, please tell this lawyer Nielsen what just happened."
Upon hearing this, Samira no longer dwelled on his intern lawyer status. She stepped forward and spoke quickly.
"Just now..."
...
Police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks arrived one after another. The cordon was quickly set up, and a few injured people were sent to the hospital after emergency treatment.
By a Police car at the edge of the cordon, Fojie Nielsen directly raised his hand to interrupt the long speech of the bearded Police officer in front of him.
"Officer! This incident is a clear assassination attempt. According to Article 20 of the New York State Penal Law, my client, Mr. Luca Orange, was entirely compliant and lawful in initiating self-defense procedures when facing a severe life-threatening assassination."
"As for this electromagnetic pulse pistol, it is an experimental model firearm registered by Orange Industries, with research and development registration number NY-2011-1221. The process is completely legal and compliant. It has already passed non-lethal testing approval."
The bearded Police officer frowned as he took the phone screenshot Fojie handed him, but he didn't actually look at it. Instead, he pointed to the center of the cordoned-off area.
There, besides a large area of ruins, the ground even had a bowl-shaped indentation.
"Lawyer Nielsen, you call this non-lethal? That truck was completely blown into scrap metal, and the driver who was just carried away completely lost a leg! This is already suspected of excessive self-defense..."
Fojie interrupted the middle-aged Police officer again.
"That was an assassin, not some ordinary driver."
"Furthermore, the truck you mentioned was rushing towards my client at 80 miles per hour, and my client's vehicle was stuck front, back, and sides by vehicles belonging to the attacker's accomplices. According to Article 20, Section 3 of the Penal Law, this falls under 'serious violent crime,' and my client has unlimited right to self-defense."
At this point, Fojie's voice suddenly rose.
"Officer, do you think that in such a situation, my client, a 14-year-old teenager, had any other escape route besides taking a huge risk and choosing to use the experimental weapon he happened to be carrying?!"
"Moreover, for that level of vehicle attack, my client was protecting not only himself but also other innocent civilians in this car accident!"
The bearded Police officer looked at Luca nearby, his Adam's apple bobbing, his voice a little hoarse.
"Actually... Actually..."
"Actually! What you should be doing right now is investigating who is behind this heinous attack, not making things difficult for my client, a victim who has just experienced a huge fright, a 14-year-old teenager."
Seeing Fojie's aggressive demeanor and sharp words, the bearded Police officer was sweating profusely and for a moment couldn't utter a single word.
At this moment, another middle-aged Police officer, who had been inspecting the scene earlier and was clearly of a higher rank, walked over quickly with a frown.
However, after the newcomer clearly saw Luca's appearance, he was first startled, then nodded thoughtfully.
"James, no need to press further. Please ask this..."
"Luca Orange." Luca smiled and nodded.
"Please ask Mr. Luca to go to the bureau to provide a victim statement, and then send that high-powered weapon to the technical department for a brief report. You don't need to worry about anything else."
But he had just finished speaking.
On the other side, a well-dressed, mature woman lifted the cordon with one hand and walked into the scene, saying softly.
"Director Stacy, I'm afraid you can't have your way. This pistol involves Orange Industries' core trade secrets. If an investigation is needed, you may require approval from the state government. And it would require a Police-appointed confidential review technical team to conduct the inspection and investigation in collaboration with Orange Industries engineers."
"Ms. Simpson!" Fojie bowed slightly to the newcomer.
Gerald Simpson, a senior partner at Deland Law Firm, and Fojie's direct superior.
Ms. Simpson first nodded and smiled at Luca, then looked back at Director Stacy.
The middle-aged Director, George Stacy, rubbed his temples, clearly having a headache.
That young chubby guy was already difficult enough, and now a well-known New York lawyer had arrived.
These lawyers were all incredibly difficult to deal with.
That's why he had previously assigned his subordinate to communicate with the victim's lawyer.
However, he had no intention of making things difficult for Luca in the first place. Now that the opposing lawyer had given him an out, he went along with it, shrugging his shoulders with a slight look of helplessness and saying.
"A statement is still necessary, isn't it? This will also help us investigate the mastermind behind this attack more quickly."
Upon hearing this, Ms. Simpson turned back to Luca and added.
"Mr. Luca, remember, the necessity of self-defense does not depend on the weapon's power, but on the timeliness of the violence. Today, you not only protected yourself but also saved the livelihoods of all Orange Industries employees. Therefore, whether to cooperate with the Police investigation is entirely up to you."
Director George Stacy, who was nearby, had a vein throbbing on his forehead.
Fortunately, this time Luca did not refuse again, but instead gave him a benevolent smile.
"Police and civilian cooperation, my pleasure~"
