Rain's POV:
I scramble toward him, almost tripping over my own urgency.
He's sprawled back against the pillows, eyes on the ceiling .
One arm is stretched out, palm open, waiting.
I grab his palm, steadying myself.
My knees sink into the fur blanket, soft and warm beneath me, and I hover over his face, breath shaking.
The room feels sealed shut from the world now. The wooden planks over the windows keep the mountains out, keep the snow and the lake and the sky locked away like they don't deserve to see this.
The fire crackles faintly somewhere in the house. The air smells like warm wood, sex, and that last trace of strawberry on my skin.
His voice slices through my hesitation.
"No," he says, calm but commanding.
"Don't face this way. The other way."
My stomach flips.
Heat rushes through me so fast it makes my head light.
So I turn, repositioning myself in reverse, my hands braced on his thighs for balance.
