Chapter 8 - Ch 8: Gaining a Profession

"Ahhh~ humans are such good participants. A lot of you made it out of this round as well. Is the game too easy for you all?"

The god taunted as humans looked up at it with wide eyes.

"I-Is it all finally over?"

Someone asked, causing the god to let out a chuckle.

"Over? It's just the beginning. Now, I am sure you all must be exhausted. For now, it's time for you all to head back home."

The god snapped his finger, and just like before, a flash of light covered everyone before they were transported back to their positions before the game started.

Andrew blinked as his body appeared back on the rooftop. The setting sun at the horizon welcomed him, and the world was painted in a soft red glow.

[You have met the requirements to enter a profession. Would you like to select a profession?]

The text on the system screen glowed, and Andrew wasted no time in selecting yes.

[Please select a profession to enter.]

There were a lot of professions, but there was only one Andrew had his eyes on. He took out the 'Source of Mana' he had acquired after becoming the first one to kill a goddess and pressed it against the system screen.

"I would like to offer a tribute to the system."

The system screen glitched before it turned red.

[A tribute has been offered. A new profession class will be opened based on the tribute offered.]

The Source of Mana was absorbed by the system and it glitched before the screen turned back blue.

[The offered tribute has been accepted. Two new classes have opened]

[God's Apostle]

[ArchMage]

[Please select the profession you would like to proceed with. Once you choose the profession, you will only be able to learn your profession-related skills.]

Andrew wasted no time in selecting ArchMage. Both Apostle and ArchMage belonged to the mage class and used mana. But ArchMage was an offensive class while Apostle was a defensive and support class.

Being able to attack the enemy and take them out was always much better than trying to survive and hope someone else would take care of your problem.

'I can cover up the lack of support with the items I will get in the future anyway. I should focus on getting stronger for now.'

Once he had chosen his profession, it was time to look at the reward he got for coming first in the second game.

The system's item box appeared in front of him when he clicked on the prize, and he immediately checked the description of the object in his hand.

[Champion's Item Box [R] - the weapon box contains a rare weapon tailored for your profession. If you have not chosen a weapon or have a 'special' profession, the weapon provided to you will be the closest one your class can use.]

[New stat opened - Currency. You currently possess 0 system currency.]

[New Category opened: Shop. Balance: 0]

"I expected that much. A special profession is hard to come by and hard to work with. It is too powerful to not be balanced like this. I guess I will get basic mage's equipment for now."

Andrew opened the box, and just as he expected, a staff appeared in front of him.

[Mage's Staff (R) - Increase casting speed by 2%]

"Hmm, this is not bad. That 2% will save me a lot of time until I can find something better. For now, I should focus on leveling up to get higher in my class's rank."

The current rankings were divided into -

[Beginners] - lvl 15

[Trainee] - lvl 30

[Advance] - lvl 70

[Elite] - lvl 100

[Master] - lvl 200

[Grandmaster] - lvl 500

[Leader] - Top 1 Player

Only the person at the top of a class could become a leader, and there could only be one leader at a given time. For now, he was not in any rank, and he would remain as such until he hit level 15.

Most of the powerful spells were locked behind level class and accompanying quests that one could trigger.

So Andrew's next task was to get to level 15 and get the beginner rank so that he could start training.

'Time to head home…'

Just as he pushed his body away from the railing, the sky cracked open once more and the god appeared.

"You all returned back home, and you are all doing well. Please continue to do well in the future as well. And also remember, the system is your friend and we, gods, always have your best interest at heart. If you want to survive, then do not go against us."

The invisible pressure these words put the humans under caused a wave of fear.

Andrew clutched his staff as he looked up at the god disappearing back into the crack. For a second, his eyes met the god's before the god completely disappeared.

'Last time, I was close to eradicating the divine settlement. There cannot be a lot of them left at this point. I will make sure to finish what I was not able to last time.'

After leaving the rooftop, it was time to head home once more.

It was a shame that the system had not provided him with any reward for coming in 1st. But it was still fine. He had a few ways to earn currency and get some early-round equipment.

As it happened, things that were of historical and significant value in this world could be sold for a lot. And value was something that could be created with influence.

If there was one thing his current body had, it was money and influence. It should not be difficult for him to get his hands on something that was considered valuable and had historic symbolism.

"I should look around to see if I can buy anything online. Let's see… how much money do I have in my account?"

Even if Andrew's current self went bankrupt, it did not matter. After the next game session, the current currency system would collapse and everything would shift to the system currency anyway.
