Chapter 3 - Forest Survival

*Warning for blood and spiders*

"This again." Aisling says as she lands on her back with a thud.

She rolls over as she hears multiple things rustling in the brush around her.

She tenses up as the rustling gets louder and closer.

It attacks before she can defend it, it's scraping at her face. She lets out a "Roar!"

It wasn't effective. It's too fast. She was at her wits end until it stopped.

Aisling's vision focuses on it; it looks like an ant, but it has spikes.

"Did it run out of stamina or mana?" She thought.

She runs towards the ant-thing, baring her teeth and claws, only to go right through its after image.

"Alright how about magic!" Aisling thought.

"Unable to access magic in this form!" The voice chimed.

"What the hell ?!" She yells as more ant-like things come out of the bushes.

Aisling edges back against the cliff, picking up her paw to swipe at the ant's body using a skill but their hides are too tough.

Looking up at the cliff, the thought "Can I climb it?" came into her head.

"I need a distraction!" Aisling digs her paws into the ground to kick up dirt stunning the ants long enough to, she braces herself to leap.

Aisling leaps but only grabs a tiny rock pointing out of the cliff. She tries to twist herself to use her back legs as springboard.

Aisling notices the ant hoard climbing up the cliff.

"Work my wings!" She leaps off the cliff passing the bushes. "Yes, they work!"

Aisling spoke too soon as her tiny wings started to give out, sending her tumbling through more bushes, stopping short of some sort of lake.

Shaking off the dust and dirt. she glances around using "beast sense" to see if there were any ants or other threats around, and she neither senses nor sees anything.

Aisling takes a breath and opens the status window. The window shows that she is fatigued, thirsty and bleeding.

"I guess I'll drink and rinse myself in the lake before anything else comes." She thought.

That's when she notices the lake's dark purple hue, and the plant life around is a green and purple color.

She tries to use "beast sense" on the lake and plants but it didn't notice anything.

"It's obviously only for beast predators." "Sigh."

She sticks her paw into the lake and pulls it out quickly. She sniffs my paw only to smell water and a wet paw. "Smells like wet dog."

Aisling laps up the water quetching her thirst and takes a bath. Drying off she scans area of the lake for a safe spot from the night predators as she notices even through trees the suns are going down.

She sees tree roots she can make a burrow out of and decide to dig until it was big enough for her to squeeze through. She fell asleep to the quiet stillness.

Aisling is awoken by a horrible screech; she squeezes herself out the burrow to scan around the lake, nothing was there, but her beast sense said something was coming. Something bigger than her, which was a lot of other beasts.

Trying to sense the direction it was coming from, she braced herself to leap.

A huge screech pierced her ears again as she sees a shadow coming towards her direction, Aisling launches herself into one of the trees in the opposite direction.

As it got closer, she could make out the shadow figure as a boar-like creature being launched into the purple lake. Screening as it disappeared the depths only to see a pool of blood turning the lake into a deeper shade of purple.

Horrified, she holds her breath as she senses something else approaching the lake. Her heart beating louder as the figure got closer. The figure was cloaked in blood and scars approached the lake taking to a sip and slinking away.

Aisling climbs down the tree as soon as she sees the figure leave, her heart still pounding. Cautiously stepping over to the lake, she looks to see nothing out of the ordinary no trace of the huge boar-like creature's body.

"What was that other creature-I bathed in and drank the lake yesterday and I didn't swallow me up?"

Aisling banged her head on the ground "Too many questions. Just focus on surviving these last three days."

Other than in the morning nothing else happened inside the lake it was like it was the first day she came to it, quiet.

On the third and fourth days in the forest she decided to leave the lake on the day and return before the suns set. She marked trees with my claws and tried to cover scent and tracks the best she could as she searched for an easy monster to kill.

She had no luck, most of the monsters were either armor ants or huge like the boar. With no access to magic starting a fire, and stealth movement could mask her presence not her scent.

With the time running out she decided tomorrow she would expand her search area to the north furthest from the "safely lake."

The morning of the fifth day Aisling set off towards the north of the forest, after passing through the boar-things territory the forest seemed too quiet. Beast sense didn't notice anything, but she cautiously headed forward.

Walking further as the sun sets, she saw something shiny on the trees Aisling slinked forward touching the shiny object with her paw. "Sticky." she takes notice that the sticky, shiny things are all over the trees. "S-spiders." she let out a tiny squeak.

The sun sets and the sky turns dark revealing purple moons when her beast sense detects a monster. She starts backing up only to feel a hard, prickly feeling on her leg. Turning around to be face to face with a six red-eyed, black spider.

Its screeches opening its jaws she spun around and leaped back at the same time avoiding what came out of its mouth. "I HATE SPIDERS!" Aisling thought as she let out a roar.

The spider flinched for a second, scared Aisling lifts her claw to swipe at it. It nicks the spider's face but like the ants its screech called enforcements.

She darted into a clearing, the spiders still following her, the one nicked in the lead. She sees a tree with a breach in an L-shape. Leading the spider up the tree the one nicked face. She tears off the little L part breach with her teeth. "Quick and agile feet" Aisling climbs to the top of the tree jumping and flip jumping in the branch's base snapping it with the spider underneath it. She jumps again using the breach in her teeth to stab the spider.

It squinches up as she backs away when a familiar ding rings in her ears and the status screen pops up, she tries to close the screen before it goes through its whole spiel but to much cursing it to didn't close until the voice stopped.

"You have completed task, one of two your first hunt: Defeat any monster." "You have leveled up, + 1 to all stats and have obtained fear resistance."

"That's great but now I'm surrounded." Aisling thinks as the spiders spit at her. She tried to dodge it but the spit lands on me, "OUCH!" She quickly jumps onto the tree trying to use quick and agile feet, but she starts to feel sluggish. Everything starts blurring as Aisling gets to the top of the tree, she can sense the spiders getting closer. She jumps from the tree hoping her wings will carry her to somewhere safe.

As Aisling lands her head starts pounding and spinning, everything feels numb, she tries to use her "beast sense" but her status screen kept flashing red? "What does that mean?" Aisling's body starts to fell like lead again, "I feel myself slipping away." She thought.

"I am dying again?" She thought, feeling her vision turn dark.

As everything went black, I thought I heard a familiar ding in my ears.
