Chapter 1 - The Hive

The young man awoke from a harrowing dream.

Inside of a cold, bleak incubation chamber, a young man with soft, pale skin and dirty blonde hair opened his green eyes. A gentle, frail halo hovering sombrely above his head with his naked body curled up in a fetal position as if he were a baby in the comfort of its mother's womb. However, the young man was not in the comfort of a womb, instead he was surrounded by similarly encased beings who all shared his pale skin and the soft glow of a halo above their head.

As if finally realising his existence, the young man squirmed hopelessly inside the ivory chamber, only for the water inside to be slowly drained, causing the young man to fall onto his thin knees with a yelp—the glass door of the cylinder chamber slid down, freeing him of his imprisonment. With a couple of blinks and squints, the young man could finally see his surroundings without the blurriness the water had given him.

Tall, white walls surrounded the porcelain hive, similarly decorated cylinder chambers dotted around in the hundreds as pale figures slowly step out of them, some with confidence, some with hesitance, and some even crying hysterically from fear, fear they did not even know or understand.

The young man let out a shaky breath, slowly rising to his feet with hesitance as he steps out of his chamber, only to instantly fall flat on his pale face against the cool marble floor, with a soft groan the young man rose back to his feet, feeling a bit embarrassed of his ungraceful fall—whatever embarrassment was.

Looking around like a shy kitten, the young man stared at one particular figure with a small frown, it was a young woman with pale skin, her beautiful azure eyes clouded with tears as her hands remained anchored onto her long white hair—murmuring something under her breath. The young man exhaled softly from his nose, before stumbling over to her, trying not to trip over his own feet again like he did before, shaking his head to remove the unpleasant memory—he finally reached the sobbing girl, kneeling with shaky legs beside her whilst tilting his head slightly with a small smile.

"Are you alright?"

The young man softly spoke, as if he were talking to a child, he did not know why he felt so compelled to speak so kindly to this random girl he had never met. The beautiful young woman slowly raised her head with wide, glistening eyes, before slowly nodding, her lips parting slightly as she murmurs quietly

"I…I'm fine, just a little frightened."

The young man sighed and nodded, offering his hand as he shakily stands, watching as the young woman hesitantly grasped his hand and stood up without too much trouble before presenting him a teary smile, which made the young man question why he felt so weak while this girl could walk just fine.

As the young man was about to question the girl, a thundering yet calming voice echoed throughout the porcelain hive, causing all the pale figures to freeze in unison.

"Welcome, young angels! To the hive!"
