Chapter 20
"Rest well for today. Your brother olalekan will take you back to school tommorrow." Mum folakemi had said to her before she left with her husband to their bedroom.
Silence....
Oladeji and olalekan were sitting on the long couch opposite Rihannat. While folakemi was standing some feet away from her friend.
She didn't know how to break the silence neither do the two brothers attempt to help her. It was a suffocating silence for her.
She knows her brothers were trying to teach her a lesson she deserve. She was so foolish before. "It is a deserving punishment whatever comes her way today" she thought sadly as she walks towards Rihannat with slow heavy steps.
"Rihannat, please forgive me." Thud, she fell on her knees.
I don't have any word to say because I don't know what to say than "sorry".
"I....I...still want to be your friend. Please will you accept me?" She whispered, her voice so low that you have to strain your ear.
Rihannat chuckle in amusement. Even in her poor mood, she understood folakemi's feelings (A guilty heart). And how can she chase away someone ready to change for better. What if this is Allah's way of bringing folakemi to the right path. Alhamdulillah (thanks to Allah) that nothing happened to her after all, Allah protected her from the evil that almost befell her, so who is she to hold grudge against the innocent? Folakemi did not hurt her, it was her evil friend.
An her family has been nothing short of good to her since she knew them. They make her feel grateful to Allah that she came.
Rihannat, not willing to let the opportunity slip feigned anger and nonchalance on her face before saying "How can I trust your word when you people are die hard fans of eachother? Even your parents cannot separate you. How can I take you as a friend when you will still....
"No. No. No. I will not. Never. I promise you. I am such a bad daughter and sister and I promise to become a better version of myself starting from today. I swear by Allah!. Folakemi said feeling remorseful.
Rihannat smiled and giggled all at a time. She turned to pull folakemi into a warm hug.
"Tell me you will start praying regularly and on time?"
"Yes"
"No clubbing? "
"Yes"
"No bad friends and alcohol?"
" Yes"
" No skipping classes again even though you still hit high scores?"
"Yes"
" No late night outing even if it isn't club?"
"Yes"
"And....No more hanging around with males?"
You.....(sighs)..okay.
"Not okay, yes or no? Rihannat pressed"
"Yes"
"And no more short wears?" I know your clothes always get to knee but now it should be lower than that. If you want to be my friend, we need to flock together like the same birds."
"Yes madam"
"So welcome to friendship! I will introduce you to the other two." Rihannat concluded.
Clap. Clap. Clap. Clap. Clap. Clap. Clap.
"The two new friends looked up to see the newly crowded living room. Weren't they just four now. The two brothers with folakemi and Rihannat. So how come there are many people now. Even folakemi's parent are back to the room now with their close friends whom she saw outside at the party." Rihannat was flabbergasted.
How come we didn't notice so many people coming in? Folakemi asked her two brothers.
The two brothers laugh softly. How can we do that? You two were so engrossed that we dare not interrupt you; Olalekan said, grinning slyly.
You are such a beautiful soul my dear. I am now seeing why these two couples here won't stop singing your praises since we've arrived. You are really amazing, wonderful and kind. We will be glad if you can be friends with our daughters because I see you won't make friends with boys (smiles) according to your religion. Sorry I am a Christian. And I will be very delighted if you accept baby girl. I am very sure they will learn one or two from you and have a change of habit (bad habits) .
Or what do you all think? Madam felicia asked the group of people in the room, their attires screaming wealth. Rihannat thought some will decline but they all nod "YES"!
Rihannat swallowed.
I am just.....I don't really....deserve being friends...
"Rihannat, who told you that? Who said my daughter doesn't deserve something better? You deserve everything good dear because of the goodness in you.?" Folakemi's father cuts in.
"Good then. You are welcome to all our families as a daughter too Rihannat dear. We will be glad to have you visiting someday." Mrs felicia Adamson said loudly, Followed by applause, nod and welcoming cheers.
Its was overwhelming for Rihannat. She was almost in a dangerous situation but Allah turns it to mercy and blessings for her. Almost in doom but it became a victory for her. Though she knows some of their kids will be spoilt brats, she isn't callous. She will only make friends with the reasonable ones among them. Allah has given her the foundation she needed for her future growth. Not to borrow money from them or embarrass herself, No. But to build a cycle and connection for her future company. A partnership built on genuine trust, friendship and loyalty. Its time to start laying the foundation for now. She smiles lightly with a thankful heart towards her lord.
Which of my lords mercy will I deny?!!! She thought inwardly. He shows his mercy to whom he wills, uplift and favours whom he wills while degrading and punishing whom he wills. Who can question his authority.
Allahu Akbar!!!. Subhanallah wa bihamdihi, Subhanallah il Azeem. (God is great, All praises to Allah the owner of thanks and The lord of the mighty throne.)
