Chapter 10 - TEMPTED TO ACT NOW

The butler continued talking, his voice filled with excitement that his boss is finally married.

Ava nodded to every word he uttered, while her mind went somewhere else. "He talks too much," her inner voice said, getting impatient.

"Sir, how long have you known Nathan?" She suddenly asked, not knowing what to call the old man.

"15 years now" The butler curtly replied, his hands sliding into his pocket.

Ava smiled and thanked him, making an excuse to leave.

She tried calling her best friend again . She has nobody in this town trustworthy or will she say nobody on earth has gained her trust except Angel after her mother's death.

"Boss, Adam's family has blacklisted her from getting a job anywhere in the country!" Leo informed Nathan while his gaze focused on the documents. Sorting out new business partners for the new launched product.

He hesitated for a moment, "So what does that have to do with me?" Nathan asked, sharply glaring at him.

Nathan has not been himself after last time, his mind keeps replaying everything that happened that night.

Nathan grumbled, "Looks like you've been less busy lately." He pushed the documents to Leo's direction.

"Sort it out."

Nathan stood up and walked towards his window, his eyes staring at the sky and hands crossed behind his back.

"We don't have any business deals with the Adams right?" He asked Leo, his voice firm.

"Not yet, we have pending contracts with them." Leo replied.

"Hmmm.. Cancel it. Block all emails coming from their company."

Leo nodded and left with the document.

Nathan smiled, his lips reaching his eyes. Let's see how far you can go. he thought.

A few minutes later, a middle aged woman bashed in, her footsteps heavy and fast. "Why did you marry her?" She asked.

Nathan took a deep breath, turned his head towards the person ready to ruin his afternoon.

"Aunt?!"

His eyes darkened.

He despised his aunt because she's like her brother, Nathan's father. Appearing when he finally made money, claiming she had memory loss after several years.

He knows she has an ulterior motive towards him but can't pin where exactly. " What do you want?" He asked, his voice steady.

"What happened to your fiancée?" She glared at him, like his mother.

"I don't have any fiancée other than my wife." He replied with a corner of his upwards. Coldly staring at her.

"Nathan, you should know what you are getting yourself into. Everyone knows who your fiancée is."

Nathan frowned and stared at her suspiciously, " You're not my mother, so why are you bothered by who I marry?" He questioned her.

" Even if I am not your mother, you think your mother will accept such a lady for you." She scoffed. "Let me tell you, your mother isn't naive she knows what is bad and good!"

Nathan gives respect to those who respect themselves, but this woman right here always passes her boundaries. "Well good for her!" He replied, sarcastically.

"When your mother wakes up, you will be in deep trouble," she said, warning him.

She has plans, he can't just marry anyone and ruin her plan. He will marry his rumored fiancée whether he wants it or not.

Nathan's eyes darkened, he had heard enough of her rubbish. "Leave!" he glared at her with eyes filled with malice.

"Just you watch!" She said, then walked out of his office.

Nathan turned towards the window again, his mind remembering her.

Emily was Nathan's close friend from high school, he loved as a sister but not romantically. Both parents agreed to marry them off when they reach the legal age for marriage.

Emily wanted to become a model, she had to starve herself to get her dream body. After getting her first model contract thanks to Nathan's help, she began to take the limelight.

After college she told her parents that she doesn't want to marry now, till she makes a name for herself all over the world.

Technically Nathan wasn't against it because he knew the marriage won't work out.

Nathan's mother wasn't satisfied with her idea, then went ahead to announce their engagement to the press, while they wait for her to return.

...

When Nathan returned home, he walked into his room. The light was on, casting a glow over unfamiliar things in the room. The desk had additional books.

Then, he heard the sound of the shower and he frowned.

He moved closer to the bed, his gaze met the familiar pink gown. "Nina? Are you inside?"

The sound of the shower was loud, while Nina soaked herself into the bath, one leg raised , her eyes closed inhaling the rosy scent.

He walked towards the bathroom, her silhouette visible through the frosted glass.

Nathan knocked, a quick clink on the door, then again, louder.

He quickly opened the door, a knot of fear tightening in his chest.

"Ahhh…." Nina shouted at the intruder, her hands and legs crossed beneath the water, covering her upper upper and lower body.

Nathan's foot froze and he shouted., "Are you okay?" His hand still held onto the handle.

"Nathan!?" She asked, to be sure he was the one, while she grabbed her towel and wrapped it around her body.

Ava calling out his name confirmed she was okay. Nathan walked back to the desk, leaning his back against the chair.

His eyes darkened. After confirming she was okay, his eyes turned cloudy. He needed an explanation from her.

After a few minutes, Ava walked out of the bedroom, her hands tightly clutching the towel, her hair tied upward.

She held her pink nightgown and glanced at him. His eyes were unreadable as he met her gaze, watching her every move. She slowly walked toward the closet, as her head turned sideways, her cheeks burning.

She returned, her arms behind her gown, while her gaze still focused on the floor while she tiptoed quietly close to the bed.

The room was filled with silence, only the tiptoes could be heard as Nathan closed his eyes trying to control himself, he suddenly broke the silence.

" What are you doing in my room?" He asked, his back leaned against the bed.

"•….•" Uhmm..
