Chapter 18 - Whispers of Ancient Magic at King's Cross

King's Cross Station is located in central London and is a very important transport hub for England.

It's still early, and there aren't many tourists coming and going.

Vizette entered the station smoothly and, after asking around, found the way to Platform Nine.

The closer you get to platform nine, the more groups of people you see.

They all looked like parents dropping off their children, but their clothing style was really strange.

Some people's clothes were extremely brightly colored, looking like costumes borrowed from a circus;

Some people wear extremely contrasting clothing, such as a thick cotton-padded coat on top and shorts on the bottom;

Some people might have chosen the wrong clothes; for example, a balding, middle-aged man with a full beard might wear a floral maxi dress...

Although their clothing was completely out of place with the other passengers, their actions were remarkably synchronized—they approached the pillars of platforms nine and ten, rammed into them, and then disappeared from sight.

A middle-aged man in a suit noticed something amiss, ran up to the pillar with a puzzled look on his face, and even reached out to touch it.

Just then, a burly man in a pleated skirt suddenly appeared. He raised his magic wand, rushed to the middle-aged man's side, and muttered incantations.

A flash of light, and the middle-aged man, his face contorted with urgency, sprinted out of the station at top speed...

Vizette wiped the sweat from his brow, unsure where to begin his rant.

Everything is so strange.

A pleasant female voice came from beside him, "Muggle studies should be made available to all students, not just an elective course."

This is an Asian girl with delicate features, long black hair reaching her shoulders, and a few freckles on her pretty nose.

She was wearing a light blue hoodie with two dark blue "T" letters on the front.

The girl was pulling a suitcase with one hand and holding an old-fashioned broom in the other.

The broom was very well maintained and had never been used for sweeping. Both the handle and the branches were coated with varnish and looked very smooth and shiny.

"You're Vizette, right? You look familiar. I remember you were frequently featured on the front page of the Daily Prophet last month."

The girl introduced herself with a smile, "My name is Cho Chang... I'm a Ravenclaw student."

Vizette nodded. "Hello, Cho Chang."

"Hello!" Cho Chang said with a smile. "We should go now. We can just barge in. The British Ministry of Magic staff will only disperse Muggles."

"A British Ministry of Magic employee…" Vizette pointed at the burly man in the pleated skirt, "is he dressed like this?"

"Right? Hard to understand, isn't it?" Cho Chang gave a helpless smile. "That's why I say we should popularize Muggle studies and update our knowledge of Muggle studies."

"So what if I'm wearing the Tutshill Tornadoes uniform and holding a flying broom? They won't even notice me... Muggles are much more tolerant these days."

"Can you believe it? It's 1991 now, and Muggle studies' understanding of Muggles is still stuck three hundred years in the past. It's unbelievable!"

Cho Chang walked ahead, talking as she quickened her pace, disappearing directly into the pillar.

Vizette followed closely behind, and after a very brief period of darkness, a brightly lit platform appeared before them.

Behind him was no longer the King's Cross station hall, but a wrought iron archway, with a sign on the ceiling that read "Platform 9 3⁄4".

Waaaaah...

It was a deep red steam locomotive, exuding a strong Victorian style.

In fact, this steam locomotive did originate from that era and was a means of transportation "requisitioned" from England by the British Ministry of Magic.

The Minister for Magic at the time was Ottaline Gambol. In order to ensure the safe return of Hogwarts students to school, this female minister overruled objections and mobilized the British Ministry of Magic to undertake a major project.

This project involved 167 Oblivion Charms, the largest hidden magic in English history, and ultimately resulted in the construction of the 9¾ station.

The steam locomotive was also completely transformed, switching from steam engine-driven to magic-driven, and was named the "Hogwarts Express".

The platform was very noisy, with thick white magical smoke swirling above and all sorts of pets walking around under people's feet.

Parents clung to the windowsill of the Hogwarts Express, muttering their pre-departure instructions, while the children nodded repeatedly like chicks pecking at rice.

Vizette cast his Eye of Magic, and the ancient magical power brewing here was abundant, the silver-blue magic almost overflowing the platform.

With a thought, countless ancient magical powers surged toward him, and the "Wizard's Practical Guide" in his mind turned to the fourth page.

Ancient Magic: Improvement (Beginner): Guides ancient magical power to improve spells...enhances magical power...adds special effects to spells...

Unlike shield magic, modified magic cannot be used directly; it must be combined with other magic.

Its function is very practical; it can enhance the power of magic and also add some special effects.

During the time before the start of the school year, Vizette spent his time organizing the items he would need and studying "The Wizard's Handbook" to learn how to use ancient magical powers.

If we interpret it using the mindset of his past life, this notebook is equivalent to providing him with "Special skills," also known as SP skills.

From the initial shield magic to the Eye of Magic obtained in Diagon Alley, both are different from the wizarding magic of today.

The emergence of improved magic, in particular, helped him confirm his conjectures.

The notes mention two ancient magical powers.

An ancient magical power originating from the Obscurus can be used to directly cast spells.

Another type of ancient magical power is even more unique, originating from those ancient magical structures;

These magical structures, nurtured over time, generate ancient magical power that can be directly absorbed, promoting the growth of the Eye of Magic or opening new pages in the notebook.

"Isn't it amazing?" Cho Chang's voice rang out. "When I first came in, I was also very amazed. Such antiques can usually only be seen in museums."

The first few carriages were already full of students. Some were playing around in the aisle, some were doing their homework with their backpacks in front of them, and others were chatting idly.

"Why did you bring a toad? Is that fashionable now?"

"Its name is Rafer, it's a toad. My great-uncle bought it for me; he was so happy that I had the talent of a wizard…"

"Are you sure your great-uncle was happy, and not experiencing some other emotion? Do people still keep toads as pets these days?"

...

Cho Chang was a warm-hearted girl who led Vizette all the way to the middle of the train and found an empty carriage.

The two of them worked together to lift the suitcases onto the shelf. "At this time, they still have to catch up on their homework, and they are mostly Gryffindor students."

"How did you figure that out?" Vizette asked curiously.

He didn't know much about Hogwarts.

Although he had a copy of "Hogwarts: A History of the School" in his mind, he hadn't had time to read it yet because it wasn't a textbook.

Cho Chang took out a rag and wiped the already shiny flying broom. "As far as I know, Gryffindor students have an exceptionally rich summer vacation schedule."

"They would arrange for us to explore wizarding ruins or spend the whole day engrossed in Quidditch... In short, doing homework was usually the last resort."

Vizette couldn't help but chuckle and said, "The day before school starts, you have to choose between finishing your homework and going to sleep?"

Cho Chang chuckled, "That's right! That's exactly it!"

A young Black man suddenly appeared, picked up a pocket from the bottom of his shirt, and said, "Hey buddy! Can I borrow your homework to copy? I have a bag spider I got from Africa, you can touch it!"
