The moment Lloyd appeared, townspeople swarmed him like angry bees.
Lauren led the assault.
"You and that slut are working together," she spat. The drug had left her system, but her fury burned hotter than ever. Lloyd made the perfect target. "Everyone, beat the hell out of him!"
Lauren's word carried weight in town. The crowd descended on Lloyd without hesitation.
"Listen to me, I'm not—" Lloyd curled into a ball on the ground, arms protecting his head.
The mob had lost all reason. His words fell on deaf ears.
Natalia observed the chaos from inside her vehicle, shaking her head. "Savage people breed in savage places."
"Stop! Don't you recognize me?" Lloyd flashed his credentials desperately. "I'm Lloyd Dario, mayor of Barlow. Get Shaun Allen over here."
At the sound of his name, Shaun strutted over with his usual arrogance. "Who wants me?"
Tonight had already been a disaster. Now outsiders were stirring up more trouble. Shaun's patience had worn thin.
