Chapter 248 - The Truth Behind the Absence

Everyone in the coliseum was shocked speechless upon discovering the fact that the giant griffon monster could speak fluently. Moreover, the ferocious beast addressed one of the tournament participants, who was still in his first year, with an absolute title of honor: 'Master'.

Amidst the silence filled with dread, Kazien, standing on the expanse of the arena's ice, raised his hand.

"Lidaz, take that man flying with you and have him tell them everything!" Kazien called out in a calm yet echoing voice, pointing straight at the host who was standing trembling on the podium. "When the two of you are up there, tell him to speak and describe what he sees from the sky!"

Hearing the absolute command from his master, Lidaz did not delay for a single second. The leader griffon immediately flapped his wings and swooped down toward the male, who was still standing frozen at the podium.

"Hey Human, climb onto my back!" Lidaz said with his deep baritone voice.

The monster's voice instantly snapped the host back to reality from his frozen daze. He swallowed hard.

"B-But..."

"Hurry! My master has ordered me to take you!" Lidaz urged impatiently.

He hesitated and was terrified seeing the sharp claws in front of him. However, after a few seconds of gathering the remnants of his courage, the host climbed onto Lidaz's back.

As soon as he held on tightly, the griffon immediately darted high into the sky above the capital.

The absurd sight of a teenager who could easily command a wild griffon sent the entire arena into an uproar once again.

Prince Mardaziel, who had previously been incredibly arrogant and dismissive of the Garveon Kingdom team, could now only kneel on the ice, struck mute by the nonsensical madness unfolding right before his eyes.

Meanwhile, high in the sky, the host opened his eyes against the rushing wind. As soon as he looked down, he was presented with a truly terrifying sight. His eyes widened.

"Say everything you see, Human!"

Hearing the words of the griffon he was riding, the host without hesitation began to channel his mana and spoke through his wind magic.

"T-The entire capital... even the royal palace which is far from here... everything has become a sea of eternal ice!" the host cried out, his voice trembling with terror echoing throughout the arena. "But... miraculously, not a single human on the streets has frozen to death inside the ice! This ice only froze the environment!"

Everyone in the stands was shocked to hear the live broadcast, yet their logic refused to believe it.

"Stop joking around, Host!" shouted a male spectator from the middle stands, his voice breaking the silence with a skeptical tone. "How could anyone possibly freeze an area as vast as the entire capital in just the blink of an eye?!"

However, not long after that doubt was shouted, the arena's main gate was thrown open roughly. Several patrol soldiers rushed hurriedly into the center of the arena, panting heavily with pale faces.

"Your Majesty!" cried one of the ordinary soldiers as he threw himself to his knees on the ice. "Please forgive our insolence for barging in! Something truly terrifying is happening out there!"

King Nortvan immediately stood up from his seat on the VIP balcony. "What is happening out there?" he asked in a demanding tone.

"The capital!" the soldier exclaimed with a voice trembling in fear, reporting what his own eyes had seen. "The capital, everything has suddenly frozen! Even the outer walls of your palace are frozen shut under the ice! We from the patrol squad are currently investigating who the mad mastermind is that caused this entire capital region to freeze, Your Majesty!"

Before King Nortvan could even open his mouth to respond to his soldier's report, a calm voice interrupted from the right side of the soldiers.

"You do not need to bother investigating it. I am the mastermind who froze this entire capital!" Kazien answered with an incredibly firm tone, causing the soldiers to look up in shock. "That is a warning for everyone here, and at the same time, the real reason why the Altavis family has never wanted to participate in this tournament!"

Kazien then cast his gaze across all corners of the stands.

"If an Altavis descendant is fighting and cannot control their magic like I am doing right now..." Kazien continued, his voice echoing coldly, "then the consequence won't just be this capital freezing! But everyone living within it will truly freeze to death leaving nothing behind!"

Then, Kazien turned his body and pointed straight at the noblewoman who had insulted and provoked him earlier from the stands. The woman was now cowering in fear in her seat.

"Do you understand the reason now?" Kazien asked with a condescending tone that pierced the mind. "If you and people like you know nothing about the burden borne by the Altavis family, never speak carelessly! For decades we have always chosen to remain silent and not participate in tournaments, purely because we would rather yield than let others become victims of an unintended massacre!"

Instantly, the atmosphere inside the arena, including the several soldiers who had just entered and were still kneeling stiffly, fell silent. Everyone was shocked in absolute silence.

Their minds seemed to have been forcibly opened. They finally truly knew and realized the terrifying reason behind the Altavis family's absence for the last 70 years. They were not avoiding the tournament out of arrogance or underestimation, but rather because they were simply too lethal.

"I personally do not mind at all if you underestimate or insult me!" Kazien asserted with a loud voice that vibrated the frozen air around him. "But mark this! If you start insulting and badmouthing my family, it isn't just me! Anyone would immediately take action if their family were insulted! Do you understand, you big-mouthed woman over there?"

Kazien took a breath, slowly lowering his hand.

"The fact that we have remained silent all this time does not mean we are afraid or weak!" Kazien continued, still with his unwavering firmness. "We merely try to avoid unnecessary trouble. Because we are very aware that if this immense power of ours is not controlled properly, it will only bring disaster and harm many parties!"

The silvery-white-haired teenager stared straight toward the kingdom officials and judges in the VIP stands.

"For our family, immense power is not something to be shown off in a tournament arena!" Kazien said with extraordinary authority. "Our power was bestowed upon us to protect what we must protect! That is why the Altavis family has always remained neutral for hundreds of years! And we will only move if we are provoked first!"

Those loud and principled words made everyone in the coliseum even more silent. Not a single person dared to open their mouth to speak. Even the honorary guests and rulers from other kingdoms remained quiet, absorbing every meaning of the words spoken by the academy student whose power was equal to a natural disaster.

However, this was not the case for the members of the Altavis family in the VIP stands. They did not bow their heads. On the contrary, their chests puffed out proudly. They felt incredibly proud and honored because Kazien boldly, without the slightest hesitation, said everything and defended their family's dignity in front of thousands of people from all regions across the Azvel Continent.
