After moving to the larger island, training officially began under Master Roshi.
With more space and better terrain, the real Turtle School discipline was finally set in motion.
Chi-Chi, Goku, and Krillin stood in a row, faces solemn.
Master Roshi paced before them.
"Goku was trained by Son Gohan.
Krillin spent eight years in the Shaolin Temple.
And Chi-Chi learned some martial arts from the Ox-King.
So you all have some basic foundation.
Let's start by testing your current level."
All three nodded firmly.
Roshi pointed to a stretch of ground.
"From this rock to that tree—it's exactly 100 meters.
Let's see how fast each of you can run it.
Speed alone doesn't make a great martial artist,
but it's a good measure of your legs, waist, and overall conditioning.
So… who's first?"
Krillin took a step forward and puffed his chest.
"I'll go! Watch the power of these lightning legs!"
Roshi grinned. "Very well, Krillin goes first."
"Ready…"
"Run!"
Krillin shot forward, legs a blur beneath him.
A trail of dust exploded behind him as he sped toward the finish.
Click!
Roshi pressed the stopwatch as Krillin reached the tree.
"10.4 seconds! Not bad at all!"
Chi-Chi clapped in surprise.
"Wow, Krillin, you're so fast!"
Krillin rubbed the back of his head with pride.
"Eh, 10.4's not my best—I've done 10 flat before.
But this terrain's kinda rough. Heh…"
Chi-Chi nodded earnestly.
"That's amazing! You're really fast!"
Krillin blushed.
"If you want, I could teach you a few tricks later…"
Roshi gestured to Chi-Chi.
"Next—Chi-Chi!"
She trotted to the start line, poised and ready.
"Ready… run!"
Chi-Chi bolted off. Despite her short legs, she kicked up a similar trail of dust.
She hit the rock with a hop, and—
Click!
Roshi smiled. "11.5 seconds—not bad at all! Quite impressive!"
Chi-Chi grinned. "Thank you, Master Roshi!"
Krillin chimed in, "That's super good for a girl!"
"Now… Goku!"
Goku took his place at the line.
"Ready—"
Click!
In a blink, Goku vanished in a blur. He crossed the finish with almost no effort.
Roshi stared at the stopwatch in disbelief.
"7.5 seconds!"
Chi-Chi ran up to him, eyes sparkling.
"Wow, Goku! That's amazing! Only 7.5 seconds?!"
Goku shrugged modestly.
"It's nothing, really. I've been training since I was little."
Then he turned to her with a wry smile.
"Chi-Chi, don't get so worked up over every little thing."
"…Okay," Chi-Chi murmured, bashfully.
Krillin gawked. "Seven-point-five?! That's insane!
How did you train to move like that?"
Goku answered calmly, "My grandpa taught me. I've always trained with weights."
Both Krillin and Chi-Chi gave him a big thumbs-up.
"Awesome!"
Then Roshi held up the stopwatch.
"You all did well—but remember, there's always someone stronger."
He passed the watch to Krillin and removed his shell.
"Here, Krillin—time me."
"You're running too?" Krillin asked, startled.
"It's been a while," Roshi said with a grin. "I could use the stretch."
He crouched at the line.
"Ready… run!"
With a thunderous step, Master Roshi vanished in a streak of dust.
Click!
Krillin pressed the button as Roshi passed the rock—and stared in awe.
"Five-point-two seconds! No way!"
Chi-Chi's eyes sparkled. "Master Roshi, you're incredible!"
Goku blinked. "Krillin, I think you hit the button a little late."
Roshi shrugged as he slung his shell back on.
"Eh, I'm getting old. But you kids… with time, you'll surpass even five seconds."
Chi-Chi raised a hand. "Even me?"
"Of course," Roshi said. "Anything's possible with effort."
He wiped his brow. "Whew. That sprint made me thirsty.
Goku, fetch me a drink from the kitchen."
Chi-Chi, eager to help Goku, jumped ahead.
"I'll go!" she offered cheerfully, and darted into the house.
But moments later, a loud Achoo! echoed from inside.
Chi-Chi came tearing out, holding a drink,
sprinting full speed—
with Blonde Launch right behind her, wielding a cleaver.
The others were stunned.
They zoomed past the 100-meter course like streaking shadows.
Roshi peeked at the stopwatch.
"Chi-Chi just ran under five seconds. Even faster than me!"
Krillin gulped. "Wow… looks like I'm the weakest here after all."
Roshi shook his head.
"Not necessarily. Chi-Chi ran like that because she was in danger.
It's proof: when pushed, people can tap into incredible strength.
You must believe—human potential is limitless."
Krillin scratched his head. "Really?"
"Trust me," Roshi said. "Chi-Chi's a perfect example."
"Hmm… true!"
Goku, watching Chi-Chi sprint from danger, scratched his head.
"I didn't expect Launch to be that scary even to girls when she goes blonde."
Roshi gave a sage nod.
"Women are only gentle to men they like.
If you're not that person, it doesn't matter if you're male or female."
Krillin looked up with admiration.
"Master Roshi, you know so much…"
Goku blinked. "Wait… but Master, you've never had a wife. How do you know that?"
Roshi's face darkened.
"Ahem! Kids shouldn't ask about adult matters!"
