Zarek looked away from her, turning his face to the window. His shoulders slumped, the weight the pain she caused pressing down on him all at once. He could not bear to look at her right now.
"Get in bed, Eliora." he said, his voice dropping into a flat, exhausted whisper. "It is late. We're done talking about this tonight."
He reached for his robe hanging by the wardrobe and slid into it.
Eliora watched him, panic flaring up in her chest. She took a quick step forward, reaching out to him. "Where are you going?"
He didn't even turn his head to look at her. His hand rested on the handle of the door. "Anywhere that isn't here." he said flatly.
Before she could say another word, he pushed the door open and left the room.
Eliora stood alone in the empty room, staring at the closed door with her heart breaking into pieces.
