Billy hurried back to the restaurant, gripping his credit card tightly, still shaken by what had just happened.
When he reached Marie, he gave her a small, awkward smile.
"Turns out I found my card... It was hidden in my pocket the whole time. Guess I just didn't feel it earlier."
He preferred to tell this simple lie instead of confessing the truth—that the card had suddenly appeared in his hand out of nowhere. Who would ever believe a story like that? He certainly didn't want Marie to think he was crazy.
He paid for the meal. Marie thanked him for the dinner, and Billy, still a bit embarrassed, replied, "No problem."
They said their goodbyes, each heading home their own way.
