Chapter 97 - Departure

On the other side, Kvedo looked at Saiji, who was blocking their way, and urgently asked, "Father Saiji, that was amazing, but why?"

Saiji made a gesture, indicating Kvedo to lean in and listen: "Kvedo, after I charge an extraordinary materials halfway, you release all the stored energy from your extraordinary materials. Only then will we have a chance to leave."

Although Saiji was old, his movements were still faster than many young people. After he finished speaking, he used his muscles to squeeze out the extraordinary materials hidden in the interlining of his arm's clothing, letting it fall to the ground.

It wasn't until they heard the sound of the coin spinning that Kvedo and the other two realized this extraordinary materials was actually a coin. However, what was different about this coin was that it spun continuously, emitting a crisp sound with each rotation.

Saiji, who had forcefully plunged his greatsword into the ground, gritted his teeth and began to convert all his strength into the power of holy light. However, no matter how much power he emitted, he couldn't fill the entire coin; instead, his power was continuously absorbed by the coin.

Without Saiji's reminder, Kvedo and the other two just exchanged glances, then allowed Kvedo to step forward. Kvedo didn't hesitate; after fiddling with the Beyonder weapon, which resembled a gaia transformer, he stared at the coin.

The coin was already illuminated to nearly halfway. At this moment, Jackson and the Reaper attacked simultaneously. On one hand, the Reaper's weak point attacks combined with the purifying attacks of Jackson's holy relic were incredibly powerful, almost equivalent to a full-force strike from a demigod skilled in combat. On the other hand, it was also because, although Saiji had greatly strengthened his defense, most of his energy was ultimately absorbed by the coin.

The strongest defense recognized among those below demigods was melted away like a piece of paper by the radiance on Jackson's hook, and Saiji's Morning Light also dissolved in that radiance.

Kvedo had already shouted when he saw Jackson's attack arrive, but luckily, the coin's teleportation activated at the same time the defense broke. Otherwise, even a delay of one or two seconds could have resulted in Saiji and Kvedo's trio being directly erased from the world.

"Huff, huff, huff..." After teleporting to a place surrounded by vegetation, Saiji panted heavily, then burst out laughing: "I survived!"

Kvedo, Erich, and Karl also let out a sigh of relief. After all, these three had never experienced such a high-level battle, yet they miraculously escaped in a fight involving Sequence 5 Beyonders. This was also something Kvedo and the other two were very happy about.

Finally, Kvedo was the first to react and thanked Saiji: "Father Saiji, we owe our lives this time to you, but how did you know I possessed a powerful extraordinary materials?"

Saiji glanced at Kvedo, chuckled twice, and said, "Hey, kid, I didn't expect your leader to keep this from you. Hmm, it must be Rosell. A few months ago, he found me and gave me that coin-shaped extraordinary materials. He said, 'I know you're a wandering Beyonder from Loen, but I want you to pretend to be a spy from Forsac. When the time comes, take this extraordinary materials and let Kvedo charge it; he'll know what it means.'"

Saiji's voice eventually turned into an awkward laugh: "Your Governor is really ruthless. He specially made an extraordinary materials that can teleport but requires immense charging, and it must cooperate with you. And having me pretend to be from Forsac is also some kind of arrangement I don't understand. You guys really know how to play. Alright, I'm leaving. Old people like me can't stand your reckless antics anymore."

Saiji released his hand, allowing the teleportation coin, which had turned into a stone coin after losing its function, to fall to Kvedo. Then he thumped his waist, swayed twice, and left, clearly having prepared his escape route beforehand.

Kvedo had originally wanted to thank Saiji twice, but he didn't expect Saiji to thump his waist and leave at a speed comparable to Bolt in the realm of 'run, retreat, sell out, escape'. He didn't even want to listen to Kvedo, directly turning left and right and disappearing.

Kvedo, Erich, and Karl looked at each other, but all sighed in unison.

Erich was the first to speak: "Kvedo, one of my original purposes in coming to Trier was to seek cooperation with Governor Rossel. I didn't expect it to turn out this way. Since that's the case, I'll leave Trier and return to Lunburg."

Kvedo didn't expect Erich's first words to be about parting. For a moment, he didn't know what to say. Even though Kvedo was always eloquent, this was his first time experiencing the pain of a friend's departure.

On the contrary, Karl, who was usually not good at speaking, asked Kvedo even earlier than the momentarily speechless Kvedo: "Kvedo, is there temporarily no place for me in Trier?"

Kvedo was even more speechless, but still wanted to persuade Karl to stay: "Karl, you are a member of the Gelin Family. Governor Rossel will... will protect you, but... you can only..." The more Kvedo spoke, the more he realized that Karl, who was proud of his family, would not agree to hide his identity and evade the Eternal Blazing Sun's pursuit.

"No need to say more, I know," Karl chuckled self-deprecatingly, a hint of sorrow in his voice. "Governor Rossel needs to expand outwards. The current Intis is already stronger and needs an opponent. Before it was Loen, now it's Forsac. And Karl Green, who is already a Reader and has a mentor-disciple relationship with a Beyonder from the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom, is a thorn in the eye of the Eternal Blazing Sun. The Eternal Blazing Sun will not allow heretics to develop and grow in Intis, especially when that person is under Rosell's command."

Kvedo feigned a happy expression and said, "Karl, don't blame Governor Rossel. Governor Rossel also has his considerations, and you just need to hide for a while, and Governor Rossel will negotiate with the Eternal Blazing Sun..." However, the more Kvedo spoke, the softer his voice became, until he finally let out a long sigh.

"Karl, come with me and leave. You can become an official Beyonder, or you can choose to become our collaborator. We won't ruthlessly kill Beyonders we already cooperate with. We are not those idiots from the Eternal Blazing Sun whose brains are filled only with holy light," Erich comforted Karl.

However, Karl did not hesitate like a child. He quickly recovered, nodded to Kvedo and Erich, and said, "Reading and traveling. This should be the method the god of knowledge and wisdom advises people to gain wisdom! Let me go to Lunburg and see! The glory of the Gelin Family will shine in Lunburg."

Kvedo knew it was futile, so he put on a happy smile and said, "Have a safe journey."

Erich and Karl nodded, looked at the sunlight filtering through the trees, identified the direction, recalled the map, and then headed away from Trier.

Kvedo stared blankly at their retreating figures, falling silent for a long time. He watched the sunlight in the forest gradually fade from golden yellow to dim. Finally, Kvedo seemed to return to his usual self, leaving only a soft whisper: "Goodbye, my friends." Then he walked in the opposite direction from where Erich and the others had left.

Everyone has their own trajectory. Meeting in limited time is a blessing; parting is the eternal melody.
