Chapter 73 - Pikachu’s Magnetic Multiverse Journey! [73]

"Pallet Town," read a worn sign standing quietly by the roadside.

Time had blurred many memories into faint, hazy shadows, leaving only fragments etched deep in the recesses of Ray Chu's mind.

Given how fuzzy most of these place names had become, Ray Chu had no idea he'd wandered into the hometown of a never-aging legend.

To blend in among humans, Ray Chu shed his eye-catching accessories and wandered through town on all fours, casually exploring.

Along the streets, novice Trainers constantly squared off in friendly battles. Ray Chu paused curiously to watch a couple. However, reality soon set in—not every kid was lucky enough to receive a Starter Pokémon; most relied instead on common species like Pidgey or Caterpie.

Their moves… were pitifully basic, limited mostly to String Shot and Tackle. Anyone who managed a "Gust" was already considered exceptional.

"This year's rookies… aren't much, huh?" Ray Chu commented, scratching his chin from the sidelines, offering his professional Pokémon opinion. These beginner Trainers were the textbook definition of League newbies!

"Wow! Look, it's a yellow Pokémon I've never seen before!"

"That's just a Pikachu! The forest is crawling with 'em—even more common than Pidgey!"

Just then, two kids—one older, one younger—walked past Ray Chu.

Don't get mad, don't stoop to kids' level, Ray Chu mentally coached himself. But when a nearby Diglett overheard the kids and started rolling around laughing, he couldn't hold back any longer and lunged at the tiny joker.

Startled, the brown Diglett ducked swiftly underground, popping out another hole nearby to continue its mockery—only to come face-to-face with Ray Chu's sinister grin.

After a quick game of "Whack-a-Diglett," during which he learned a marginally useful move—Sand Attack—Ray Chu let the unfortunate mole escape. Suddenly, something whizzed through the air toward him. Instinctively, he sidestepped and shattered it with a sharp Brick Break.

Crack! Pieces scattered across the ground.

"Oh no! My Poké Ball!" cried a kid wearing a cap, rushing over and collapsing onto his knees, staring helplessly at the wreckage.

Ray Chu strolled past him leisurely, inwardly remarking: Sorry, little guy, but I'm not just any Pokémon you can catch.

But after a brief moment of mourning his broken Poké Ball, the capped boy suddenly jumped up and proclaimed loudly, "Just you wait! I'll definitely catch you!"

Ray Chu shrugged. If shouting alone worked, who'd ever bother training?

Yet…

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

During his leisurely tour through town, Ray Chu dodged seven Poké Balls and smashed more than twelve. That stubborn kid in the cap had seemingly latched onto him, pursuing him relentlessly in his determination to capture him.

The kid didn't even have a Starter Pokémon yet but was astonishingly persistent, challenging Ray Chu time after time, undeterred by repeated failures.

Moreover, the boy's stamina was downright unbelievable—on par with a Pokémon's. Watching him follow all the way up a tree, Ray Chu nearly blurted out, Kid, interested in martial arts lessons?

But then he remembered—this was the Pokémon world. Here, the default aesthetic was Pokémon battles, not martial arts prodigies with rage-driven superpowers. Ray Chu quickly shook off the thought.

Sorry, kid. Humans just aren't going to capture me. Go find another Pokémon—like that Caterpie over there. Who knows, it might evolve into Rayquaza someday!

The leaf-munching Caterpie: ???

With a loud "Pika!", Ray Chu prepared to use Quick Attack to leave the kid behind. But at that moment, he heard the boy shout from below, "I, Ash from Pallet Town, swear I'll definitely catch you!"

Ray Chu almost stumbled and fell out of the tree.

The next instant, he flashed down, knocked the kid unconscious with a quick chop, and bolted away using several consecutive Quick Attacks.

A short while later, Ray Chu stared contemplatively at his reflection in the river.

Most details were fuzzy now, but the legendary "Pikagod" and his trusty partner Ash were still clear in his memory. Wasn't Ash's starting point… Pallet Town?

He studied himself closely—the smooth yellow fur, bright eyes, thoroughly average appearance, and most importantly, that "Oscar-level" acting talent…

Wait… Could it be that he himself was that legendary Pikagod?

Ray Chu reeled slightly at the thought—not from dissatisfaction, but from imagining himself spending the next decade-plus traveling with a certain reckless idiot, repeatedly stalemating Legendary Pokémon, eternally stalling at league championships, and occasionally indulging in dramatic street performances with Bug Catchers. The prospect felt utterly exhausting.

He shook his head. Fortunately, being "Pikagod" was entirely his choice. No one could force him into it.

As for whether Pallet Town's Ash could become a legendary rookie without Pikagod, Ray Chu simply shrugged. Pikagod's business isn't Ray Chu's business.

Clearing his head, Ray Chu cheerfully prepared to leave when suddenly a frightened cry came from nearby. A tiny Pichu burst out from the grass, staring fearfully upward.

Above it loomed a short cliff, where a baby Kangaskhan had stumbled and fallen, hurtling toward the ground.

Ray Chu snapped his fingers, enveloping the little Kangaskhan in a white glow. Using Confusion, he gently guided it safely to the ground.

The tiny Pichu immediately rushed forward, inspecting the young Kangaskhan and sighing in relief upon confirming it was unharmed.

The two youngsters glanced gratefully at Ray Chu, then quickly dashed back into the grass. Moments later, heavy footsteps heralded the arrival of a massive mother Kangaskhan, the two little ones now snugly tucked in her pouch.

The mother Kangaskhan roared warmly in thanks, placing a bundle of berries before Ray Chu as gratitude for rescuing her child.

"Pika pika!" Ray Chu waved casually, indicating it was nothing. He gently rubbed the heads of the two little Pokémon, cheerfully inviting all three to join him in enjoying the berries.

After exchanging quick glances, mother and children happily accepted the offer.

And so, amid rolling hills, flowing water, rustling grass, and gentle breezes, the four Pokémon—two big, two small—shared a cozy, warm-hearted afternoon snack by the riverbank.

The mother Kangaskhan lay leisurely on the grass, her stone-colored body stretched comfortably, maternal warmth radiating from her smile as she watched the two children playfully climbing over her.

Ray Chu easily recognized that the little Pichu was probably an adopted child, lovingly raised alongside the Kangaskhan's own offspring.

The tender scene warmed Ray Chu's heart, leaving a gentle smile lingering on his face.
