Cheapter 2.:Listening even though he doesn't understand
As Haruto and Kaito traveled through the rain in a horse-drawn carriage, they noticed the faint glow within the child—but it was slowly beginning to fade.
Haruto:
"He was definitely sacrificed. It's painfully obvious. I wonder what they wanted in return… Hey Kaito, who do you think did this?"
Kaito (snorting):
"I don't know, Haruto. I don't know why they did it or for what purpose, but… I found a necklace. And this kid—ah, damn it! Seriously, what are you planning to do after we bring him to headquarters? What are we even going to tell Lady Akira? Haruto!"
Haruto:
"A necklace?"
Kaito:
"Yeah. I found one, and it looked extremely expensive. Instead of worrying about that, you should be thinking about what you're going to say to Lady Akira."
Haruto (leaning toward Kaito):
"Whaaat? Why me? You've got it right now, you know that, right? No one can explain this situation better than you, Mr. Kaito."
Kaito (irritated):
"You know what, Haruto… Ugh. I knew this would come back to bite me. And why did we even take that kid with us anyway?"
The child began to murmur in his sleep. Haruto turned toward him, while Kaito glanced sideways.
Child (murmuring):
"I… ugh… oh… ha… ugh… I… no…"
Haruto (frowning, looking at Kaito):
"Why do you think I did it, Kaito? Honestly, look at your past—look at mine. How could we allow the same thing to happen to him?"
Kaito (exhaling):
"Do whatever you want."
Haruto (smiling faintly, thinking to himself):
"I know you still haven't forgotten, Kaito."
After a long journey, they arrived at the West Sakura Kuri Hunting Center, a place filled with sakura trees—seemingly lightly guarded, yet in reality heavily protected. At the gate, Kenji and Doctor Mitsuni (nicknamed Doctor Crackhead) greeted them with smiles. The carriage stopped at the entrance to headquarters. When Kenji and Doctor Mitsuni noticed the child in Haruto's arms, Kenji spoke up in shock.
Kenji:
"Huh? This child—who is he? And those black veins on his body… Doctor, this falls under your expertise."
Doctor Mitsuni stepped forward, quickly regaining his composure as he examined the child.
Doctor Mitsuni:
"Hmmm, let's take a look at those veins… Ooooh wow, they're actually pretty cool."
(The doctor touches the black veins and examines the child.)
Child (murmuring):
"Ah… ngh… please… don't…"
Doctor Mitsuni:
"Where on earth did you find this little guy?"
Kaito (interrupting):
"Is Lady Akira here? We need to speak with her about something important."
Doctor Mitsuni:
"I'm not sure. I haven't seen her since this morning."
Kenji cuts in, running his hands back through his hair.
Kenji:
"I don't know, but it must be something urgent."
At that moment, the sound of high heels echoed through the area. Everyone turned around to see Sora.
Sora, wearing her mini feathered dress, winked at Kenji and spoke.
Sora:
"Seriously, none of you know how to take care of a child—especially you, Doctor Mitsuni. It's raining, and you're holding the kid like that while interrogating our crazy duo? And you too, Kenji."
Kenji (grinning):
"She speaks again, the heart-breaking queen."
As everyone talked, thunder rumbled overhead—and the child in Haruto's arms slowly began to open his eyes.
