Chapter 23 - THE HORIZON

Chapter: 23 The Horizon

The clash echoed through the forest like the beating of a war drum.

Steel met steel.

A violent shockwave tore through the trees as two figures collided again.

The dark elf twisted mid-air, her twin long swords crossing in front of her body as she blocked the incoming strike.

CLANG!

The impact blasted her backwards.

She tore through a line of trees like a meteor crashing through fragile wood. Bark exploded into the air. Leaves spiraled around the battlefield like a storm of emerald blades.

When the dust settled…

She stood again.

Her boots dug into the soil.

Her breath was heavy.

Her golden eyes burned with cold fury.

Across from her stood A1.

The silver aura surrounding him flowed like liquid moonlight. It pulsed gently around his body, as if he was wrapped inside a living armor made of pure energy.

He hadn't moved.

Not even a step.

The dark elf wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth.

"…Monster."

A1 tilted his head slightly.

To him, this battle felt less like combat and more like entertainment.

She dashed forward again.

Her body blurred.

Her speed was terrifying.

Two long swords flashed like twin streaks of lightning.

At the same time, the dagger held between her teeth suddenly dropped into her palm.

Three blades moved simultaneously.

A perfect assassination technique.

The dark elf's figure split into three shadows as she used a phantom step technique, each afterimage attacking from a different angle.

Left.

Right.

Front.

Any ordinary warrior would have died instantly.

But A1 simply raised one hand.

CLANG.

The dagger stopped inches from his neck.

His fingers had caught the blade.

A simple grip.

The other two swords crashed into his silver aura.

BOOM!

The shockwave blasted the surrounding forest.

Leaves spiraled into the sky.

The dark elf's eyes widened.

"…What—?"

She immediately jumped backwards.

Her instincts screamed.

Danger.

Pure danger.

At first glance, the battlefield looked empty.

Just two warriors fighting in the middle of a quiet forest clearing.

But the reality was very different.

They were not alone.

Far from it.

Hidden within the forest…

Thousands of eyes watched.

The Audience of the Forest

High above the battlefield, perched casually on a thick tree branch, a massive stone creature sat like a bored spectator.

The Gargoyle General.

Its wings folded behind its back.

In one hand, it held a gigantic red fruit the size of a watermelon.

CRUNCH.

It took another bite.

Juice splattered across its stone jaw as it chewed slowly, watching the fight like someone enjoying a street performance.

Its glowing eyes followed every movement.

"…Interesting."

Below the surface of the forest…

The true audience revealed itself.

Dozens of corrupted beasts were scattered across the surrounding terrain.

But they were invisible.

Hidden by a powerful skill.

Domain Camouflage.

This ability bent the natural mana of the forest, merging the beasts with their surroundings.

To the dark elf's senses…

The forest appeared empty.

But in reality, she stood inside a massive circle of hidden predators.

Watching.

Waiting.

Amused.

Behind a large bush nearby sat B2.

Next to him was C3.

They looked surprisingly relaxed.

Between them lay a pile of freshly gathered berries.

C3 casually tossed one into his mouth.

"…She's fast."

B2 nodded calmly.

"Fast, yes."

Another explosion shook the forest.

BOOM!

A tree snapped in half as the dark elf launched another desperate assault.

B2 continued eating berries without even looking away from the fight.

"But A1 isn't even trying."

Behind them stood a massive creature.

A gigantic beast with dark red fur and burning horns.

The Hellflame Bison.

Once a wild spirit beast of the red zone…

Now it belonged to C3.

The beast calmly chewed grass while watching the battle.

Its fiery eyes reflected the silver aura of A1.

Even the corrupted beasts surrounding the clearing were watching.

Hidden wolves.

Mutated serpents.

Dark panthers.

Winged predators perched on branches.

All of them were observing the fight like spectators at an arena.

The entire forest felt…alive.

Watching.

Enjoying.

Even the sky above seemed to participate.

Far above the battlefield, the gigantic barrier formation that surrounded Draven's domain glowed faintly.

At its center floated a massive red eye.

An enormous construct of mana and blood energy.

The eye slowly rotated.

Its pupil locked onto the battlefield.

Watching the clash.

Analyzing every movement.

Like a god observing two insects fight.

The forest had become a stage.

And the dark elf had unknowingly stepped into a coliseum.

A Predator Playing With Its Prey

The dark elf charged again.

Her body twisted through the air like a blade dancer.

This time her swords glowed with mana.

Her speed increased again.

A deadly technique.

"Shadow Crescent!"

Her blades carved two massive arcs of black energy toward A1.

The attack tore through the air.

The ground cracked beneath its pressure.

But A1…

Did not dodge.

Instead—

He walked forward.

The silver aura around his body flared.

The shadow blades struck him.

BOOM!

Dust exploded.

The dark elf smiled.

"…Got you."

The smoke slowly cleared.

Her smile disappeared.

A1 stood there completely unharmed.

The silver aura had absorbed the entire attack.

Not a scratch.

Not even a mark.

He looked at her calmly.

Then he spoke.

"…Finished?"

The words weren't mocking.

They were worse.

They were bored.

The dark elf felt a chill crawl down her spine.

Her instincts screamed again.

This wasn't a fight.

This was hunting practice.

And she was the prey.

Far Beyond the Forest

Thousands of miles away…

The world continued moving.

At the edge of the former red zone, the forest finally ended.

Beyond it stretched a massive coastline.

A blue ocean sparkled under the sunlight.

Waves crashed gently against the sand.

It looked peaceful.

Beautiful.

But beneath the surface…

Something was moving.

Deep in the ocean's shadowy depths…

Thousands of creatures stirred.

Large, monstrous shapes moved through the dark water.

Rows of glowing eyes opened.

The creatures began swimming toward the shore.

They were Morlocks.

Aquatic monsters known for their savage strength.

Normally they hunted everything that entered their territory.

But today…

They were behaving strangely.

Hundreds of them gathered along the beach.

They stared toward the distant forest.

Their monstrous bodies trembled.

Their monster cores pulsed with energy.

Something inside the forest was calling them.

A presence far greater than themselves.

A ruler.

A king.

A monarch of monsters.

Their cores resonated.

Not with hostility.

But with submission.

One Morlock slowly lowered its head toward the forest.

Then another followed.

And another.

Soon…

The entire horde bowed toward the distant forest.

Toward the place where Draven's domain was growing.

Eyes Across the Empire

High in the sky above the eastern empire…

Hundreds of black shapes flew across the clouds.

They were ravens.

But not normal ravens.

Their feathers were darker than night.

Their eyes glowed faintly with corrupted mana.

The Corrupted Stalker Ravens.

Draven had sent over five hundred of them across the empire.

Their mission was simple.

Observe.

Record.

Report.

They had flown across cities.

Across villages.

Across military roads and noble estates.

Now they were returning.

As the ravens passed over the coastline…

Several of them noticed the gathering Morlocks.

Their glowing eyes narrowed.

They circled above the ocean.

Watching.

Recording everything.

Then they turned back toward the forest.

Returning to their master.

The Castle on the Mountain

Far away from the coast…

Beyond several mountain ranges…

A massive black mountain rose into the sky.

At its peak stood a castle.

Dark.

Ancient.

And twisted like a nightmare carved into stone.

The gates slowly opened.

A group of cloaked figures walked inside.

At the front walked a woman.

Her hood hid her face.

But her presence carried a quiet authority.

This was the woman who had killed the Guard Commander.

The one who had stolen the mysterious letter.

Behind her followed several subordinates.

Each one wore the same symbol.

A mask shaped like a smiling clown.

They had arrived at the headquarters of one of the most feared organizations in the eastern empire.

The Bloody Circus.

Inside the castle…

The atmosphere felt strange.

The walls were decorated with red velvet curtains.

Paintings of smiling clowns hung everywhere.

But beneath the cheerful colors…

There was something deeply disturbing.

Because the Bloody Circus was not an entertainment group.

It was a cult.

A secret organization that worshipped ancient evil gods.

Their operations stretched across the entire empire.

They dealt in many things.

Assassinations.

Information trade.

Slave trafficking.

Black market auctions.

Illegal artifacts.

If someone wanted something forbidden…

The Bloody Circus could provide it.

And at the very top of the organization stood a mysterious leader.

A man known only as…

The Ring Master.

No one had ever seen his true face.

But everyone in the criminal world feared his name.

The hooded woman walked deeper into the castle.

She stopped before a massive door.

Her subordinates knelt.

"…Welcome back."

She pushed the door open.

The room beyond was dark.

A single throne stood at the center.

A tall figure sat there.

A smiling mask covered his face.

The Ring Master.

His voice echoed softly.

"…Did you retrieve the letter?"

The woman slowly raised her hand.

Inside it was a sealed envelope.

"Yes."

The Ring Master leaned forward slightly.

The mask's smile seemed wider under the dim light.

"…Excellent."

The Balance of Power

The eastern empire was not ruled by a single power.

Instead…

Six major factions operated within its borders.

Three represented the light side of the empire.

Three represented its dark underbelly.

Together they formed a delicate balance.

A coin with two sides.

The Bright Side

The Holy Church of the Empire

The empire's main religious authority.

But even they were divided internally.

Two churches existed within it.

The Sun Church worshipped divine light and order.

The Moon Church believed in balance, shadows, and hidden truths.

Though they served the same empire…

Their ideologies often clashed.

The Wanderer Corporation

A massive organization controlling trade and information.

They managed:

Guilds.

Merchants.

Travel routes.

Information networks.

If someone wanted to know something…

The Wanderers probably already knew it.

The Union

A rare alliance between different races.

Humans.

Elves.

Beastkin.

Dwarves.

Representatives from each race worked together inside the Union to maintain peace and cooperation.

They believed the future of the continent depended on unity.

The Dark Side

But every coin has another face.

Hidden beneath the empire's shining cities…

Three darker powers operated.

The Savages

A brutal criminal organization.

Controlled by a mysterious man known only as The Badger.

They controlled the illegal trade of:

Alcohol.

Drugs.

Black market medicine.

Organ trafficking.

Their influence spread through the slums of nearly every major city.

The Bloody Circus

The cult of smiling masks.

Masters of assassination.

Dealers of secrets.

Traders of slaves and forbidden artifacts.

Their leader…

The Ring Master.

The Silent Reapers

Perhaps the most terrifying of all.

Because no one even knew if they truly existed.

Some believed they were just a myth.

A ghost story used to scare criminals.

But those who tried to investigate them…

Disappeared.

And soon their names became nothing more than rumors themselves.

The Horizon Changes

Back in the cursed forest…

The battle continued.

The dark elf panted heavily.

Her body was covered in small wounds.

Across from her…

A1 still stood calmly.

The silver aura around him flickered slightly.

But his expression remained the same.

Unbothered.

Uninterested.

Above them…

The forest continued watching.

Waiting.

Enjoying the show.

Because far beyond the trees…

Beyond the mountains…

Beyond the ocean…

The world was beginning to move.

Powerful factions were shifting.

Monsters were gathering.

Secrets were awakening.

And at the center of it all…

A new ruler was rising.

A being whose domain was no longer just a forest.

But something far greater.

Something that would soon reach the horizon itself.
