Sophia made her way to the old windmill, her heart racing with anticipation. She didn't know what she would find, but she knew she had to know the truth.
As she reached the windmill, she saw a figure waiting in the shadows. "Who are you?" she asked, her voice firm.
The figure stepped forward, and Sophia saw that it was an old woman with a familiar face. "I'm Lady Margaret, a former lady-in-waiting to the Queen," she said, her voice soft.
Sophia's eyes widened as she realized who Lady Margaret was. She was a former lady-in-waiting to the Queen, and Sophia had heard rumors that she had been involved in some sort of scandal.
"What do you want?" Sophia asked, her voice cautious.
Lady Margaret's eyes locked onto Sophia's. "I want to help you, Sophia. I know the truth about the Queen, and I'm ready to tell you."
Sophia's curiosity was piqued. "What truth?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Lady Margaret's voice dropped to a whisper. "The Queen is not who you think she is, Sophia. She's not concerned with the kingdom or its people. She's only concerned with one thing: power."
Sophia's eyes widened as she realized the implications. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice loud.
Lady Margaret's eyes seemed to bore into Sophia's soul. "I mean that the Queen is the mastermind behind everything that's happened in this kingdom. She's the one who ordered Lord Thomas to kill your father, and she's the one who ordered the other murders."
Sophia felt like she'd been punched in the gut. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. "That's not possible," she said, her voice weak.
Lady Margaret's expression was sympathetic. "I know it's hard to accept, Sophia, but I swear it's the truth. The Queen is a master manipulator, and she'll do whatever it takes to maintain her power."
Sophia's mind was racing. She didn't know what to believe. But one thing was certain: she had to get out of there, and fast.
Just as she turned to leave, she heard a voice behind her. "You're not going anywhere, Sophia," it said.
Sophia's heart sank as she saw Lady Margaret's expression change. She knew she'd been trapped.
