Following her impulse, Mary drove aimlessly until she passed by a large clothing building in the city. Seeing many people coming and going, she parked the car and decided to take a look.
She had gone out today dressed casually in a short-sleeved floral shirt, black fitted pants, and leather sandals. By the standards of the time, her outfit was already considered quite fashionable. As she entered the building, she noticed that most women were still wearing long sleeves, and dresses were rare.
Walking up the stairs, Mary found that most of the clothes were dull in color, mainly black and blue, with very simple designs. Just as she reached the second floor, she noticed a crowd gathered in the middle of the aisle, clearly watching some kind of commotion.
She was not interested in spectacles, but the crowd blocked the way to the stairs. With no choice, Mary walked closer, intending to pass through.
