Chapter 11 - Sparks

Ellie's POV

All night the twins have had girl after girl come up to them. It was starting to get really annoying and a few times I tried to run off. However any time I tried Ash or Alex would grab my hand to keep me by them. Alex even reminded me that I promised to not leave their side. Honestly even going to the bathroom wasn't a break from the desperate girls fawning over them.

Even after the twins explained why some of the girls were acting that way it still annoyed me. It also made me realize that if they truly believe in soulmates like they described then they probably believed they could find their other half tomorrow and that made me even more upset. Yeah they also said sometimes people don't find them right away but it didn't make me feel any better.

Just as I was stewing in my feelings the twins asked me to dance. We spent the rest of the time on the dance floor and even though the girls kept giving me daggers, I didn't care, I was having a good time with my best friends.

Right before midnight the DJ played one of my favorite slow songs "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran and all three of us sang the lyrics while swaying to the music. As I looked up at the clock I saw it was five minutes to midnight so I decided to do a countdown.

"5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy Birth-ohhh!" I looked to my hands where both of them were holding one each and I felt what seemed like Sparks shooting up my arms from where they held my hand. It was so strange because I have never felt that when they touched me before.

Both twins looked at each other like they were having a secret conversation with their eyes. I always heard twins could communicate without speaking and with Ash and Alex I truly believe it. As I watch them I see their faces go through a wide range of emotions from confusion to pure excitement. I wish I knew what they are thinking.

I clear my throat and interrupt their private conversation, "Happy Birthday Ash and Alex. I hope all your wishes come true." I squeeze their hands then wrap each of them in a hug.

Just as they are both are about to say something to me there's tapping on a microphone followed by Mari asking for everyone's attention.

"It's officially midnight which means my boys are officially adults." She begins, her voice cracking a little and the crowd lets out a huge cheer screaming happy birthday to the twins. Mari puts up her hand to silence the crowd, "Alright, Alright settle down. As I was saying, tonight is a special night and usually on such occasions the Alph— My late husband, would be the one giving the speech," she sniffles some more, "but since he's no longer with us the task now falls to me. Alexander, Asher, I am so beyond proud of you both. Even though we no longer live in our old home village you have still showed that you will both make amazing leaders once you find your soulmate and finish your training with Jaydon. I look forward to seeing that day as I am sure many of the people here do as well. I have always known you two were destined for greatness and I cannot see what the future holds for you both. You have taken care of me, your siblings and even Ari and her siblings since the day we lost your father five and a half years ago and that was a lot to ask for two twelve year old boys but you showed strength and courage far beyond your years. You showed me that even though I no longer have my mate, my husband, that there was still some fight in me. You constantly show what it means to be Alph—Leaders just like your father and I am proud to be your mother, your momma. So let's raise a glass and toast the best twins a mother could ask for, Happy Birthday sons."

"Happy Birthday!" The crowd cheers again.

"Now we only have this place for another hour, so please enjoy the rest of your time and drive home safely. Thank you and Good Night." Mari says and gracefully gets off the stage and comes over to her sons giving them both giant hugs and kisses.

As I stand there watching them, I can agree that they will definitely be amazing leaders one day. As Mari said they were born to be just that. While they are talking to their mother and siblings and a few other people that came to wish them happy birthday, I slip away back to the table we were sitting at. Once I get comfortable a girl I don't recognize saunters over to me with a sneer on her face.

"You think you're so special because the Alpha twins gave you attention all night?"

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me!" She screeches, "You think you are so special because the Alpha twins spent the whole night with you? Well I have news for you, you are nothing but a lousy, pathetic, weak human girl and there is no way you will be there Luna."

"Wow. Look," I size her up, "tramp, Alex and Ash are my best friends, so what if they decided to spend time with me, it's what they have always done since they first moved here. It's typically what friends do, they hangout with one another. I'm sorry if you were offended because they didn't want to give you the time of day but at the same time I am not sorry. The twins have always been repulsed by desperate chicks trying to get with them, especially if it's for the wrong reasons, so take your bitchy self somewhere else. I don't have time for immature behavior."

"You little.." She starts and raises her hand to slap me when someone catches her wrist.

"Jasmine, go home, you have proven you are not," the stranger pauses for a second looking for the best word, "elegant enough to be a Luna, even if the twins wanted a chosen mate, they wouldn't choose you based on your behavior and attire here tonight. Now go, I will speak FULLY with you tomorrow in my office about this incident." The stranger says.

"Yes Alpha," The tramp that I now know is named Jasmine says and leaves but not before giving me a look that says this isn't over.

"Sorry about her." The stranger turns to me and says. "She has always been a gold digger type. She thinks if she tries hard enough she will land an up and coming leader." He chuckles. "You must be Ellie, I'm Jaydon. I have heard a lot about you." He reaches out his hand for me to shake.

Taking it, I respond, "It's fine, I've delt with girls like her since I hit puberty. Always think they deserve more than anyone else just because they hit the lottery with looks. Unfortunately looks don't replace personality. Nice to meet you. Yes I am Ellie, I think I saw you around a few times before Ari moved away, are you why she moved?"

"Yeah that would be me." Jaydon says with amusement on his face.

"Why'd she call you and the twins Alpha?" I ask. "Isn't that a term used for the leader of a wolf pack or wolf dogs in the case of my parents sanctuary."

"Umm," He hesitates. "Yeah, it is, you really are astute, aren't you? Ari and the twins are right about you."

"Don't try to change the subject."

He chuckles again and shakes his head, "Well Ellie, where we are from, since the leader takes care of the town, the town people have adopted the term to call their leaders Alpha's. It's tradition I suppose.

"Alpha, Luna, you guys have weird traditions." I say, earning another chuckle from Jaydon.

"I suppose we do."
