Asher's POV
"5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy Birth-ohh!" Ellie says. All three of us look down to where I am holding one hand and Alex is holding the other and then we both jolt our heads up and look at each other.
'Do you feel that?' I ask Alex.
'Yeah, can it be?' He asks.
'Oh my goddess I hope so.'
'But she's not a werewolf or 18 yet.'
'I know but what other explanation can it be?'
'I don't know, but goddess I hope it's true.'
'Me too, but…'
'But what?' Alex asks.
'She's only 15, we still have to wait two and a half years before we can know for sure.'
'I am willing to wait.'
'Me too, but what if we are wrong? What if she's not. If we continue the way we are, if we continue to build a bond, expecting her to be ours and she isn't, it may kill me to let her go.'
'Same brother, same. Let's just enjoy this moment because right now, the sparks feel amazing.'
I smile at my twin and agree. Ellie wishes us a happy birthday and gives us both a hug and just as we are both about to say thank you Momma gets on stage to give the traditional birthday speech. When she gets done she comes and gives us a hug and kiss. We thank her for what she said and promise to live up to the legacy Papa left us. A few wolves come over to speak to us and I feel our girl move away and both Alex and I watch her go sit at our table. Shortly after she sits down some she-wolf from Alpha Jaydon's pack walks over to her and starts talking crap. I'm about to go over there and speak my mind when my Angel gives her a piece of her mind making me proud. Shortly after Jaydon heads over and puts the she-wolf in her place right before she tries to slap our girl. She is lucky he got there first because if Alex or I got to her she would not be standing. We don't take lightly to people harming our girl but being a human, that she-wolf could have seriously hurt her and that is against werewolf law. We excuse ourselves and go towards our girl and catch the tail end of her conversation with Alpha Jaydon.
"Don't try to change the subject." Ellie scolds, making Alex and I chuckle to ourselves, a werewolf wouldn't dare speak to an Alpha like that and even humans can usually feel an Alpha aura and would second guess talking to one like she is but not our girl. As Jaydon chuckles again and shakes his head, he gives her an answer.
"Well Ellie, where we are from, since the leader takes care of the town, the town people have adopted the term to call their leaders Alpha's. It's tradition I suppose.
"Alpha, Luna, you guys have weird traditions." she says, earning another chuckle from Alpha Jaydon.
"I suppose we do." He responds amused.
"What are you guys talking about Sweetheart? Alex questions while sitting down.
Alpha Jaydon, ever the smartass respnds, "Well darling, we were discussing why Jasmine was calling you guys and me Alpha."
I snicker at Jaydon calling Alex darling and sit down as well.
"And I was just saying how it's a weird tradition you have from where you are from. Alpha is typically a term used for pack animals and the fact that people adopted it for use in leadership is beyond me." My Angel remarks.
We all just shrug, "It's been used for generations Angel, why change something that works?"
"I guess that makes sense." She says.
She yawns and Alex and I decide it's time to take her home then get ready to run with all the wolves as is tradition on a high ranked wolf's 18th birthday. Since our wolf senses are better in wolf form it does two things, helps our wolves bond with pack members or ally packs and if our mates weren't sensed in our human form for any reason they may be able to scent them out better, that is if they are around the area. Plus it's just fun to run in wolf form under the moon's glow.
"Let's get you home sweetheart." Alex says to Ellie who just nods. We say our goodbyes and head to the car we hired bringing Ellie home. We both give her a kiss on the cheek causing more sparks to shoot through us causing her to gasp, letting us know she feels it too. If she's not our mate it will make me question why we started feeling sparks the moment we turned 18.
We say our goodbyes and then head to the woods where we meet our mother, Ari, Alpha Jaydon and the other wolves who decided to run with us.
Jaydon walks up to us and congratulates us for turning 18. He then asks what our plans are now and we tell him we still plan to do our monthly training until we graduate and will then go to Alpha school after that. He nods in approval and promises we will discuss things further another day. Then we all strip down and shift into our wolves.
The run is amazing and luckily for us none of the unmated she-wolves that stuck around turned out to be our mate. We most likely would have sensed them at the party but like I said in wolf form our senses are better. However it didn't stop them from trying to entice us causing our wolves to become angry forcing them to submit then go away before they killed them. Our wolves are in agreement that we will wait for our mate and they also think that the sparks could indicate a mate bond even though they didn't get that overwhelming feeling that we have heard that mates get so we are still unsure.
When we finally get home we all take our showers and wish Momma a good night before heading to bed. I know she's anxious to know if we scented our mate but also knows it's been a long night and she doesn't want to push for answers until tomorrow. I honestly thinks she knows the answer is no since we didn't run off with anyone as soon as we turned 18 but I also believe she's hopeful.
The next morning she gets us up and has breakfast ready for us letting us know she's ready to talk.
"Sooo," she starts.
"So, what Mother?" Alex asks knowing full well what she wants to know.
"Did you scent your mate? Did you just want to wait to let anyone know so that the humans weren't around?"
"No Momma, we didn't scent our mate." I supply.
"What's with the emphasis on scent? Did something else happen?" She questions excitedly.
"Well, we aren't sure." Alex states.
"What do you mean you aren't sure?" Momma asks incredulously.
"Umm, we felt sparks?" I tell her, "With Ellie."
"Wait really!?" She sounds excited as she questions.
"Yeah Mother, we were all holding hands when the clock struck midnight and as soon as it did sparks shot through our hands and up our arms." Alex informs her of what we felt.
"And when we brought her home last night and kissed her on her cheeks goodbye like we always do we felt it again. Ellie even gasped like she could feel them too." I added. "Could she really be our mate?"
Momma took a minute to process what we told her, her smile growing while she thinks about it. Then she speaks up.
"Oh my dear boys, it's rare for sure but she very well could be. I think the fact you can't scent her could be because she isn't 18 and has year to go, but maybe because she is human the Moon Goddess is giving you hints of your bond. You both have been drawn to her from the beginning and I always felt that there's a special reason for it. I truly hope this is it, but know you won't be able to tell her of our world unless you know for sure she is in fact your mate. You might be able to slowly hint at our world, like Alpha Jaydon had to last night thanks to the crazy she-wolf that verbally attacked her but it may start getting harder and harder to keep her in the dark. Especially knowing that once you graduate high school you will have to go off to Alpha school. Keep that in mind while you figure the next year out."
"Yes Momma"
"Yes Mother."
We both answered together.
The next few years will be tough but if she really is our mate, it will be worth it.
