The sun dipped below the towering, prehistoric foliage of Mount Myōboku, casting long, dramatic shadows across the Land of Toads. The sky bled into vibrant hues of violet and deep orange, signaling the arrival of evening. The ambient symphony of croaking insects and rustling leaves provided a tranquil backdrop to the awe-inspiring sight unfolding in the center of the sacred meditation grounds.
There sat Naruto Uzumaki, suspended in a state of absolute serenity.
The violent, corrosive red chakra of the Nine-Tails—an energy that had previously scorched the earth and burned the boy's skin—had fundamentally transformed. It no longer raged like a wild beast trying to consume its vessel. Instead, it had calmed into a mesmerizing, flickering cloak of crimson energy that gently bathed his form. It was a perfect symbiosis of human and tailed beast, a serene meditation wrapped in the power of a demon.
From the periphery of the clearing, a gathering of venerable toads watched this unprecedented milestone.
The heavy, rhythmic thud of a walking staff drew the attention of the elder toads. Gamamaru, the Great Toad Sage, slowly lumbered into the clearing. His ancient, wrinkled face was unreadable as he observed the blonde boy.
Seeing their revered patriarch, the surrounding toad sages immediately bowed their heads in deep reverence.
"Oh, Gamamaru, you are awake from your usual slumber," Fukasaku noted, his tone respectful but surprised.
Beside him, Shima crossed her warty arms and scoffed. "What? Did you just run out of your liquor again?"
Gamamaru merely chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that vibrated in his throat, completely ignoring Shima's jab. His heavy-lidded eyes narrowed slightly as he focused entirely on Naruto. Deep within the boy's core, the ancient toad could sense a wellspring of power that defied all historical precedent.
Ah, so this is the boy that harbors the Kyuubi's power, Gamamaru thought, his mind racing through centuries of memories. He is quite a special child... to be able to command the Nine-Tails' strength without losing his heart. I never thought I would see a day in my own extended lifetime where the proud, hateful Kyuubi would willingly coexist with a human. But, as the old saying goes, life is unpredictable. You cannot predict the currents of destiny.
Gamamaru closed his eyes, his consciousness drifting back to an era lost to time, remembering the face of an old, dear friend.
Hagoromo... I hope you are watching from the Pure Lands, the Great Toad Sage mused. I hope you see how your sons' endless conflict has caused so much turbulence and progress in this world. Those two children back then... just because of one grave decision, their lives were turned upside down. And even now, millennia later, their spirits have not rested. They are still fighting.
Gamamaru's thoughts drifted to the dark rumors spreading across the shinobi world. I wonder if Indra's spirit has also awakened in this era. And in whom? From what little Jiraiya told us before his passing, there are only two Uchiha left... or perhaps a third, if the masked man's existence proves true. Who will carry that dark legacy? I just hope the future these children hold does not shatter the world entirely.
Opening his eyes, Gamamaru slowly lowered himself onto a massive stone slab alongside the other toads. "You may stay at ease," he rasped softly. "I will be waiting here. I wish to see how the boy handles the Kyuubi's power once he has seized complete control of it."
While the ancient toads observed his physical body, Naruto's consciousness was lightyears away, submerged deep within the ethereal grassy plains of the Eight Trigrams Seal. The once-damp, oppressive sewer had been permanently overwritten by Kushina's will, transforming it into a peaceful, twilit realm where the fractured Namikaze-Uzumaki family could finally converse.
At present, however, the atmosphere was anything but peaceful. It was pure, unadulterated family chaos.
Naruto had just finished recounting his recent exploits, eventually mentioning his encounter with Karin. The moment the word "Uzumaki" left his lips, Kushina had practically exploded.
Tears of absolute joy streamed down the fiery redhead's cheeks as she grabbed Naruto by the collar of his shirt, shaking him back and forth violently.
"You found another one of us!" Kushina wailed, her voice cracking with emotion upon hearing Karin's tragic backstory. Her violet eyes suddenly snapped open, glowing with a demonic, maternal ferocity. "Listen to me, Naruto! If you make that poor girl cry—if you hurt her in any way—spirit or not, I will claw my way out of the afterlife to haunt you!"
Behind her, Minato Namikaze, the legendary Fourth Hokage, was practically sweating bullets, offering a nervous, placating laugh. He knew all too well that when Kushina's temper flared, it was a force of nature. In their youth, he had frequently been the one on the receiving end of the short stick during her "phases."
Releasing Naruto's collar, Kushina crossed her arms, her maternal interrogation shifting gears with terrifying speed.
"Now then, let's talk about your love life," Kushina demanded, leaning in close. "What is this I'm seeing in your memories? Who is this Suna girl? Temari was her name, right, Naruto?"
Naruto, who had instinctively taken a step back, suddenly froze, his spine snapping perfectly straight as he rapidly nodded his head. "Y-Yes! Yeah, her name is Temari. She's the eldest daughter of the previous Kazekage, and the older sister of the current Fifth Kazekage."
"Uh-huh," Kushina hummed dangerously, her hair beginning to float into nine distinct tails behind her. "And what exactly are your intentions with that sweet Hinata girl? And Ino? And Tenten?!"
Naruto swallowed hard, thoroughly overwhelmed. Dealing with an overbearing, hyper-protective mother was a stark, jarring contrast to the isolated life he had lived. She was interrogating him with the precision of an ANBU commander.
"I don't want you growing up to be some silly, dense harem protagonist from one of those trashy romance novels!" Kushina lectured, pointing an accusatory finger at his chest. "The kind that breaks every girl's heart or acts like a shallow playboy! Do you understand me?!"
"I-I'm not!" Naruto stammered, frantically waving his hands in defense. "With Temari, I swear it was a mutual, satisfied relationship! She was just... tense, you know? The politics and everything. I tried to make sure she was okay, but it was her decision! I just helped her with it!"
"I don't care what excuse you give me, boy!" Kushina barked, her eyes flashing. "If you break those girls' hearts just to play the field, I will beat the ever-living shit out of you! I will personally descend from the spirit world to put you in a body cast!"
Naruto practically vibrated as he nodded aggressively, entirely subservient to his mother's terrifying demands.
Once Kushina had vented her protective fury, she took a deep breath, smoothing down her red hair. She placed a delicate finger against her chin, a sudden, alarming thought crossing her mind. She leaned forward, her voice dropping to a dramatic whisper.
"Naruto... are you absolutely sure that Temari girl isn't pregnant?"
Poof!
Naruto turned a shade of red that put the Sharingan to shame. He was already blushing from the interrogation, but now he was beef-red. Literal, comical steam whistled out of his ears as his brain short-circuited.
Kushina completely ignored his meltdown, turning her gaze toward Minato. The Fourth Hokage, previously amused by his son's suffering, was now resting his chin on his intertwined fingers, lost in deep, calculating thought. The sudden mention of a potential grandchild had completely shifted his demeanor.
When Minato finally looked up, his azure eyes were devoid of their usual warmth. He was in full Hokage mode.
"Naruto," Minato said, his voice ringing with absolute, undeniable authority. "When you return to the village, I want you to execute a few specific directives immediately. I do not care who you are saving, what you are training for, or how you spend your free time. These are essential priorities."
Naruto, sensing the heavy shift in the atmosphere, forced his blush down and looked at his father with a clueless, yet attentive expression. He understood his mother's wild emotional swings, but his father turning this fiercely serious meant the topic was of grave importance.
"First," Minato commanded, ticking a finger. "You are going directly to Tsunade. I know you are currently residing in the Senju compound, but I want you to demand a full audit of the Namikaze and Uzumaki estates. I want to know exactly what happened to our house, our assets, our sealing scrolls, and our wealth. I want it all located."
Minato's eyes narrowed dangerously. "I do not care if you have to physically beat the answers out of the council. If Shikaku, Chōza, Shibi, or any of the elders stand in your way, you press them until they break. I want those answers, Naruto."
Naruto nodded slowly, absorbing the political weight of the order.
"Second," Minato continued seamlessly. "While you are executing that audit, you will dispatch a shadow clone to Sunagakure. You need to ascertain Temari's status immediately. If she is pregnant, you are going to marry her."
Naruto, who had been nodding along reasonably to the asset reclamation, suddenly snapped his neck up, his jaw hitting the grassy floor. "Wait a minute! Marry her?! Dad, I'm fifteen!"
"You can postpone the actual physical ceremony," Minato replied calmly, completely unbothered by his son's panic. "But you will form a permanent alliance or engagement on paper immediately. And even if she is not pregnant, I want you to actively pursue a continued relationship with her."
"But... but what about Karin?!" Naruto stammered, looking frantically between his parents. "And Hinata? And Ino? Mom was just praising all of them! She approved of them!"
Minato let out a slow sigh, speaking in a low, resonant voice. "Naruto... you are a prince."
Naruto blinked. "Huh?"
"I mean that in a literal, political sense," Minato explained, his gaze holding immense weight. "Your prestige is as high as Tsunade's. You are the son of a reigning Kage and a recognized war hero. Furthermore, you are the son of an Uzumaki Princess, hailing from a clan with a history stronger and more ancient than both the Senju and the Uchiha. I understand you are hesitant about the concept of multi-level marriage, but in the upper echelons of the shinobi world, it is customary. Daimyōs, princes, and even Kages of the past have taken multiple partners to secure bloodlines and political alliances."
Minato quickly held up a hand, glancing nervously at his wife. "I never did that, of course! Kushina, you were the only woman in my heart, and you always will be." He turned back to Naruto. "But for a boy in your unique, highly sought-after position, taking multiple partners is a viable path to rebuilding our clans."
Before Naruto could even process the insane geopolitical justification for a harem, Kushina grabbed Minato by the collar of his Hokage cloak, pulling him aside with a furious glare.
"Minato Namikaze!" Kushina hissed. "Why on earth are you trying to put that playboy idea in our son's head?! I thought you were strictly against the old harem culture back when we were alive!"
Minato's expression remained dead serious. He leaned in close to his wife's ear and whispered a single, highly strategic word.
"Grandchildren."
Kushina froze. The absolute fury melted from her face in real-time. She stood completely silent for a full sixty seconds, staring blankly into space as the mental image of dozens of blonde and red-headed toddlers running around flooded her mind.
Slowly, she turned back to Minato and gave a firm, solemn nod. "You're absolutely right. We will have so many grandchildren."
Behind the wooden table, the massive, glowing orange avatar of Kurama's face violently sweatdropped. The Great Nine-Tails, a being of pure, unadulterated mass destruction, was utterly exhausted by the Namikaze family drama.
"Ahem," Kurama coughed, the deep, rumbling sound shaking the grassy plains and instantly snapping the attention of the two blondes and the redhead.
"While I thoroughly enjoy having front-row seats to this daytime soap opera," Kurama drawled sarcastically, "we have some significantly larger, cosmic-level issues to discuss."
Naruto looked thoroughly confused. "What issues?"
Minato and Kushina shared his puzzled expression, turning their attention fully to the giant fox.
"You have to confront Ashura Ōtsutsuki," Kurama stated bluntly. "Minato needs to open my seal entirely. And you, Naruto, must face Ashura to acquire your proper Sage power."
Naruto blinked, tilting his head. "Wait, what do you mean confront Ashura? Don't I need the Sage of Six Paths—Hagoromo—for that? I thought to activate the Six Paths Sage mode, Hagoromo had to awaken Ashura's power inside me."
Kurama shook his massive head, his ears flicking. "No. That was merely a forced, expedited process that occurred in the timeline of the original Naruto. The original Naruto never actually met Ashura, nor did he truly assimilate his power completely. Hagoromo forcefully jumpstarted Ashura's dormant chakra within him—essentially gifting him a Sage body on loan."
The fox leaned forward, his crimson eyes gleaming. "But if you confront Ashura directly and claim his proper power for yourself, you will possess the innate, biological ability to use Senjutsu without gathering it. You will be more deeply connected to the natural energy of the earth than Hashirama Senju ever was. Hell, I'd wager you will become infinitely stronger than Hashirama in his prime."
Naruto rubbed the back of his neck. "So... what? Dad just opens the seal, I walk up to Ashura, and use his power? Because I'm about ninety percent sure you already know exactly where his soul is hiding inside my spiritual core."
Kurama let out a heavy, cynical sigh, blowing a gust of wind across the grass. "I truly wish it were that simple, brat. You see, the problem with Ashura is that he is an insufferable goody-two-shoes."
"What does that mean?"
"Why do you think the original Naruto had such a pacifistic, forgiving mindset?" Kurama countered. "Ashura is literally going to hate you for what you did to Sasuke Uchiha."
Naruto threw his hands up in the air. "But I didn't do anything to Sasuke! I just beat his ass when he tried to kill me and show off again!"
"And you can clearly sense the remnants of Indra's chakra clinging to Sasuke," Kurama continued. "In my long, tedious centuries of existence, I eventually stopped trying to understand humans. But the very first humans I gave up on were Ashura and Indra. Yes, Black Zetsu is entirely at fault for creating the rift between the brothers, but Ashura refuses to see it that way. When you confront him, Ashura is going to preach that you should have tried to form a bond of love with Sasuke, defeated Black Zetsu together, and sung campfire songs until the world was at peace."
Naruto stared at the fox, utterly baffled by the sheer delusion of the ancient ghost.
Kushina, however, wasn't confused. She was pissed. "Why the heck would he expect that?!" she demanded, glaring up at the fox. "Look, I am deeply sympathetic to what happened to Sasuke and Itachi. They were my best friend Mikoto's sons. But I cannot ignore their treason and their faults! Maybe Mikoto can forgive them because she's their mother, but I'm not! At best, I'm their honorary aunt, and I didn't even get to know Sasuke!"
She stepped in front of Naruto defensively. "Why the hell should my son feel sorry for defending himself?! He wasn't in the wrong! Naruto extended his hand in friendship first. Every single time they clashed, Naruto gave them a way out! Sasuke and Itachi were the ones who sought violence. So why would this ancient alien want my son to roll over for them?!"
"Like I said, Kushina. I stopped trying to understand Ashura centuries ago," Kurama rumbled dismissively. "But you don't need to worry about his preaching. If he tries to suppress you, I am fighting on Naruto's side this time. We only need his raw chakra and a fragment of his soul's power—nothing more. We do not need his pathetic personality. In fact, Naruto has already effectively destroyed Ashura's personality influence when he merged his memories."
Kurama locked eyes with Naruto. "This current version of your soul is vastly stronger than the original Naruto's. That is why you were able to take absolute control of this vessel without succumbing to his ideals."
Naruto's breath hitched. "Wait... you mean... that's why I am the dominant personality?"
"It is a bit complicated, as this is my first time witnessing a dimensional soul-merge," Kurama explained, shifting his massive weight. "But from what I can deduce, the original Naruto of this world suffered from profound trauma, dark memories, and deep-seated fears. That trauma fractured his soul, causing him to create an alternate personality just to cope. If Ashura's passive soul hadn't been acting as a weak glue, the original Naruto of this world would have gone down a completely irredeemable, dark path."
The fox's eyes softened a fraction. "Then, your soul arrived. An interdimensional traveler. You came with happier memories, a lifetime of diverse experiences, a fully developed mind, and an unshatterable will. When your soul collided with his, you merged both the fractured pieces of this world's Naruto and your own essence into an entirely new, singular entity. You possess the light and the darkness of both worlds."
Naruto looked down at his hands, flexing his fingers as he absorbed the existential truth of his very existence. He wasn't just a replacement; he was a culmination.
"The only caveat," Kurama concluded, his tone dripping with absolute finality, "is that your amalgamated soul is now exponentially stronger than Ashura's lingering spirit. You are an interdimensional anomaly that fused with a locally strengthened vessel. And with that, we are ending this philosophical topic, because I am absolutely not in the mood to lecture on metaphysical soul mechanics any longer."
The family collectively nodded, perfectly content to put the mind-bending lore on the back burner. They had a much more pressing, physical objective in front of them.
"Right," Naruto said, his eyes hardening with resolve. "First, I rest up. Then, we confront Ashura."
Minato stepped forward, the ethereal wind of the mindscape catching his white Hokage cloak. He raised his hands, his chakra flaring brilliantly in the twilight realm. He nodded down at his son, his blue eyes mirroring Naruto's determination.
It was time to open the seal.
