As her mind wandered, Xu Changqing took a quick look at the items Shen Weimin had organized into the kang cabinet, the two wooden chests, and the cardboard boxes stacked in the corner.
Seeing that the room was sparkling clean with genuinely nothing left to scrub or tidy—even the drawers of the two desks were free of clutter and dust—she quickly pulled the curtains and slipped into Changqing Garden for a "swim." Even though she considered herself tolerant of the heat, she couldn't stand the smell of her own sweat anymore.
She hadn't organized the inside of the Garden at all during her recent stay at the family compound. After her swim and a change into fresh clothes, she couldn't be bothered to stay and tidy up.
'I'll just leave it for now,' she told herself. 'We're going back to our hometown tomorrow, anyway. I'll have plenty of time to sort it out later.' After consoling herself with that thought, Xu Changqing headed out.
