The day's events were still fresh in her mind. Miles Xavier's absolute devotion to that woman made her burn with jealousy.

"Shona, what's made you so angry?" Shay Lynch asked, strolling over to Shona Joplin with a wineglass in hand.
Shona Joplin, seething, stubbed out her cigarette and snatched the glass from Shay Lynch's hand.
She downed it in a single gulp, but it wasn't enough. She stood up to get another.
"Shona, you can't drink anymore. You'll get drunk. What will you do when President Xavier gets here? How will you be able to take care of him?" Shay Lynch said, grabbing the glass from her.
But Shona Joplin just shook her head and gave a bitter laugh. "He's not coming. He has someone new."
"Someone new? How is that possible? You and President Xavier have been together for over a year, and I've never heard a whisper of a scandal about him with any other woman."
