The crushing defeat at Kikyō Mountain still loomed over Sunagakure like the heaviest, most suffocating sandstorm. In the collective consciousness of the village, the humiliation of the surrender had not yet entered its "Cooldown Phase" before the next disaster initialized. The astronomical reparations and the humiliating treaty clauses, the "Three Iron Shackles" had become a sharpened blade hanging above the entire Land of Wind, pressing on every villager's nerves with a relentless, high-frequency tension.
To raise the first installment of the war indemnity and keep the village's primary "Life Support" systems online, Fourth Kazekage Rasa had nearly exhausted his internal soul-battery. The treasury was a "Null Value," mission quotas for the Sand had been throttled by the Leaf's new "Market Monopoly," and ordinary mission income could not cover the interest on our debt.
Left with no choice, Rasa had returned to his most primitive and grueling trade. He ventured deeper and more frequently into the endless desert, relying on his Magnet Release: Gold Dust technique to extract microscopic gold particles from the vast, indifferent sea of sand. To my engineer's eyes, it was a tragic waste of a Kage-level processor. A leader capable of strategic-level terraforming was being forced to perform the work of a low-level "Resource Extractor" just to prevent a total financial collapse.
He left at dawn and returned at dusk, his silhouette growing ever more haggard, his chakra signature carrying the "Heat Decay" of extreme overexertion. For the sovereign head of a Great Nation to be reduced to a solitary miner, the sorrow and "Systemic Helplessness" of it were beyond words. Consequently, the village's defensive "Firewall" suffered a catastrophic drop in bandwidth. Border posts and coastal watch-points became mere "Placeholders," starved of both manpower and the funds needed to maintain their basic sensors.
However, in the cold logic of the Ninja World, misfortunes never come in single packets. Sunagakure's unprecedented "Security Vulnerability" did not escape the notice of the world's other predators.
Far away in the Land of Water, the Third Mizukage sat within the salt-crusted shadows of his office, his slit eyes gleaming with a mixture of greed and icy calculation. He had thoroughly analyzed the combat logs of the Kikyō Mountain campaign. Sunagakure's main "Combat Processors" had been obliterated; the Kazekage was occupied with low-priority resource farming; and the village's internal morale was at a "Near-Shutdown" state.
To the Mizukage, this wasn't just an opportunity; it was a "Gift from Heaven." If the Mist struck now, they could execute a massive "Data Harvest" of Suna's remaining resources and pivot the global "Meta" toward Hidden Mist dominance. Greed ultimately overrode the caution of the Elders. The raid order was pushed to the Mist's vanguard with zero latency.
Operation: Salted Sand was initialized.
The Hidden Mist advanced in two distinct "Malware Columns," striking by land and by water to ensure a total system bypass.
The land column was led by Jonin Ao, the commander with the "Stolen Sensor," the Byakugan. His squad's objective was a "Backdoor Entry." They infiltrated secretly from the Land of Hot Springs into the Land of Rivers (territory now being "Patched" by Konoha's new administration). Exploiting the porous, unmapped border between the Rivers and the Wind, Ao utilized his Byakugan as a "Map Hack." He could see Suna's patrol patterns from kilometers away, identifying the "Dead Zones" where our underfunded watch-towers stood empty. Like a ghost-script, his force crossed the border and began a high-speed sprint toward the village's heart.
The sea column, however, was a "Brute Force" attack. It was led by the newly replenished Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. Although the group had been devastated by Might Duy's "Eighth Gate Burn-in," the Mist had quickly promoted new "Beta-Testers" to wield the legendary blades. They boarded heavily armed warships, circled the southern oceanic rim, and launched a direct amphibious assault on the least-defended southern coast of the Land of Wind.
At this precise moment, Sunagakure was a system in "Panic Mode." Border patrols were demoralized and under-equipped. Our coastal early-warning system, for lack of spare parts and chakra-conductive maintenance, was riddled with "Dead Pixels."
Meeting virtually no resistance, the Mist's warships beached smoothly on the golden dunes. Seven ninjas of varied, grotesque statures, wielding legendary blades that exuded a bloody, ominous aura, led a tide of fierce Mist elites onto the Sand's soil. They didn't use stealth. They advanced north along the coast, executing a "Full-Disk Wipe"- burning, killing, and looting as if they were walking into an uninhabited directory.
The two Mist prongs were like a pair of poisoned daggers stabbing from different directions into the heart of a Sunagakure that had already been bled half-dry by the Leaf.
By the time the first delayed "System Alarms" finally reached the Kazekage building, the Mist's vanguard had already breached every fragile outer line. They were within striking distance of the village gates.
Inside the Sunagakure Hospital, I was mid-procedure, my hands glowing with the soft green of the Healing Technique as I worked on a veteran's damaged nerve-conduits. Suddenly, the village's main "Emergency Signal", the high-pitched, rhythmic whistle of the sirens—shrieked through the air.
"Report! Urgent military intelligence! Large-scale System Breach detected! Hostiles identified as Hidden Mist Ninja appearing simultaneously in the southeast and south! Ao and the Seven Swordsmen are leading the 'Execution Scripts'! They've broken through the border and are racing toward the Village core!"
The acoustic output of the warning hit the hospital like a hammer blow. The already wounded soldiers and the exhausted staff were pitched into an even greater state of "Panic and Chaos."
The "Diagnostic Report" in my mind was grim:
Root Admin (Rasa): OFFLINE (Deep Desert coordinates).
Senior Command (Chiyo/Ebizo): BUSY (Handling Kikyō negotiations).
Primary Firewall: BREACHED.
Available Resources: LOW MORALE / RECOVERY PHASE.
A monumental crisis had descended upon us. Sunagakure now faced a life-and-death "Stress Test" even more dire than the Battle of Kikyō Mountain. At Kikyō, we fought for glory; here, we were fighting to keep our "Database" from being formatted into oblivion.
I pulled my hands back, the green light of the Healing Technique flickering out as I looked at my patient's terrified face. I reached for the Mirage Watch on my wrist, the Chrono-Furnace humming with a steady, defiant frequency.
"The Kazekage isn't here to ground the storm," I whispered, my dark eyes narrowing as I calculated the "Threat Vector" of the Seven Swordsmen. "The Elders are occupied. The system is headless."
I stood up, the thirty-year-old soul of Logan the engineer taking full command of my combat sub-routines. If the village didn't have a central processor, I would have to act as the "Temporary Kernel." I had the Mirage, I had the Natural Energy Core, and I had the "Sandaime-grade" Iron Sand.
"System Status: Emergency Override," I murmured to the empty room. "Initializing Defense Protocol: Iron Curtain."
I sprinted out of the hospital, heading toward my secret workshop. The Mist had come to scavenge the remains of a "Crashed System," but they were about to find out that the Architect was still very much online.
