The air hanging over the Hidden Sand Village had not yet settled from the high-frequency trauma of the defeat at Kikyō Mountain when a new, more chilling "System Alert" struck. The atmosphere within the village walls had shifted from a stagnant, mourning state into a frantic, low-resource scramble for survival.
Inside the Kazekage's office, the silence was heavy enough to cause a "Pressure Error." Elder Chiyo's face was a mask of ashen resolve, while Ebizo quickly flipped through the newly delivered intelligence scroll, a piece of parchment that was hastily written and stained with the dark, rusted blood of a fallen scout. Baki, the Jonin who had been left as the "Local Administrator" while Rasa was away, clenched his fists until his knuckles reached their breaking point.
"The breach is confirmed. The firewall has been bypassed," Ebizo's voice was a dry, hoarse rasp. "To the southeast, a Hidden Mist elite unit led by Ao has utilized a 'Byakugan-Hack' to navigate our dead zones. They are advancing with zero latency toward the village core. On the southern coast... the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist have completed their landing. Every outpost on the southern route has been 'deleted' from the network."
"The Seven Ninja Swordsmen!" Baki gritted his teeth, his voice vibrating with a mixture of dread and humiliation. "Konoha nearly formatted that entire group into oblivion, yet they dare to attempt a 'System Incursion' now, while we are down for maintenance!"
"Where is the Root Admin? Where is Rasa?" Chiyo asked. Her voice was steady, but it carried the weight of someone who already knew the "System Status."
"Lord Kazekage is still deep in the desert... performing manual resource extraction," Baki replied, his tone bitter and helpless. The reality of the Fourth Kazekage, the village's strongest processor being reduced to a solitary miner panning for gold in the sand was the ultimate irony of Suna's "Post-War Patch."
"We cannot wait for a 'Reboot' from the desert. We must act with the available hardware," Chiyo slammed her hand on the map-table, her eyes narrowing. "We must initialize an immediate defense! Baki, organize every ninja in the village who hasn't been 'Permanently Decommissioned.' Utilize our high-walled fortifications as a physical firewall. We cannot allow the Mist to access the village core!"
"Yes, ma'am! Defense Protocol initialized!" Baki turned and sprinted from the office to begin the "Home-Guard" mobilization.
"Ebizo, use the hawks to send a high-priority 'Ping' to Rasa. Tell him the system is under a multi-pronged attack and he must return for an 'Emergency Override' immediately!" Chiyo continued to issue commands, her gaze finally sweeping over the few remaining elite Jonin in the room, most of whom were still wrapped in medical bandages. "Pakura!"
"Online!" Pakura stepped forward. Although her face was pale from unhealed "Data Loss" in her own chakra-circuits, her eyes still flared with the heat of a Scorch Release user.
"You are familiar with high-friction ground combat. Lead a squad of elites to intercept Ao's 'Backdoor' unit coming from the southeast. You must 'Divert' them before they can form a pincer-script with the sea invaders!"
"Acknowledged," Pakura nodded and vanished toward the staging area.
Chiyo's gaze finally settled on the figure standing in the corner of the office. Sayo stood there quietly, his presence calm despite the "Systemic Panic" around them. He still carried the sharp scent of disinfectant and blood from his shifts at the hospital. His eyes were no longer weary; they had regained a sharp, analytical brilliance. He had been summoned mid-surgery and hadn't even had time to change out of his stained medic scrubs.
"Sayo!" Chiyo's voice carried a "Verified Trust" that didn't need a signature.
"Elder Chiyo," Sayo stepped into the light.
"The main Mist force, the Seven Swordsmen is advancing north along the southern coastline. The terrain there is open, offering high-bandwidth movement for their heavy hitters, but it also allows our Puppet Squad to achieve 'Optimal Deployment.' However, it is a high-risk sector," Chiyo stared into his eyes, searching for any "Error Codes." "The village has almost zero mobile combat power left. I am appointing you as the Commander of the Second Division. Lead every remaining 'Functional' member of the Puppet Brigade, along with the reserve Chunin and Genin. Intercept the Seven Swordsmen in the southern dunes. You must block their 'Execution Path' at all costs."
The office went silent. Entrusting a "Second Division" to a youth who had only just been promoted to Special Jonin was a massive gamble, a "Beta-Test" in a live-fire environment. Yet, no one objected. Sayo's "Combat Log" from the retreat at Kikyō Mountain had been analyzed; he was the only one with the "Throughput" to coordinate a defense while the system was this unstable.
Sayo took a deep breath. His mind ran a rapid "Diagnostic" of the village: the groaning wounded in the hospital, the "Deleted" status of Lucado, and the humiliating "Pact" he had witnessed. A surge of "Core Resolve", burning and cold filled his chest.
"Understood," Sayo met Chiyo's gaze with the steady focus of a master architect. "Mission Protocol accepted. I will hold the line."
He took the Commander's Warrant from Ebizo and strode out of the office. There was no time for "Idle Talk."
The mobilization was a "Desperate Compile." The village's only remaining Puppet Squad was assembled: approximately thirty puppeteers, many of them operating "Scarred Hardware" that had been hastily patched with scrap wood and wire. Additionally, fifty Chunin and Genin were "Pulled from the Cache" - patrol units, logistics staff, and those whose recovery cycles had been interrupted. Their faces showed the "Noise" of panic, but beneath it was the "Hardened Code" of those pushed to the brink of deletion.
Sayo stood before this "Remnant Force." He didn't give a "Heroic Script"; he gave a "Direct Order."
"The Mist thinks Suna is a 'Crashed System' ready for scavenging," Sayo's voice was amplified by his chakra, cutting through the wind. "They've come from the south to delete our homes and format our future. I am asking you to be the 'Firewall' they didn't calculate. Are you ready to execute the defense?"
"YES!" After a brief "Processing Lag," a roar erupted from the survivors. The humiliation of Kikyō was being converted into "Vengeance Output."
"Good. Initialize your units and follow my lead. We will show them that the desert is not an 'Unprotected Directory.' Target: Southern Coastline. Move out!"
Sayo leaped onto a large, temporary Camel-Transport Puppet. He reached for the Chrono-Furnace on his wrist. It pulsed with a steady, warm frequency, circulating pure Natural Energy through his meridians. He felt a pang of loss for the Mirage v.1.5, the platform that Konoha had confiscated as reparations but he pushed the "Error Message" aside. He would have to improvise with the hardware he had.
The Second Division charged out of the stone gates, a yellow torrent of dust rising behind them. They were a "Breaching Flood" racing toward a collision with the legendary blades of the Mist.
Sayo looked toward the southern horizon, his dark eyes analyzing the wind. He wasn't just a ninja anymore; he was the "Temporary Kernel" of the village's survival. The path ahead was paved with fire and iron sand, and he was ready to "Overwrite" the Mist's invasion script with his own.
