Chapter 5 – Dormitory Seven, First Glimpse of Tang San

When Lin Mo, hugging his bedding, followed the village chief to the gate of Nuoding Junior Spirit Master Academy and instinctively looked inside, he spotted a comical scene in the distance.

A child in patched clothes was performing the full kowtow to an older middle-aged man, respectfully knocking his forehead three times.

The sight momentarily stunned the sharp-eyed Lin Mo.

Yet the amusing scene also stirred other memories: the boy kowtowing had to be Tang San,

and the man receiving his master-disciple salute must be Yu Xiaogang.

While Lin Mo stared at their retreating backs, the village chief, who had been carrying most of his daily necessities, produced the certificate Su Yuntao had issued from Spirit Hall and showed it to the gate guard.

'Strange things happen every year, but this year they're really piling up...'

After verifying the certificate, the guard couldn't help glancing repeatedly between the document and the grinning Lin Mo.

'Work-Study Students are rare, yet this year two show up at once?

And we just had a Waste Martial Soul Blue Silver Grass with Innate Full Spirit Power, and now a six-level Waste Martial Soul 'Egg'...'

'All right, the paper's genuine—go on in.' The guard returned the certificate with a complicated look.

'But, old sir, outsiders aren't allowed inside. Let the boy carry his things himself.'

'Very well, thank you both.'

The village chief's tense face finally relaxed; everything had gone smoothly—the lad was admitted.

With his help, Lin Mo slipped the pack onto his back.

The weight was nothing even before his Spirit awakened, and now his physique had improved markedly.

'Grandpa Village Chief, head home now. Give everyone my regards. When I come back, I'll be a full-fledged Spirit Master!'

Just inside the gate, before leaving, he turned and shouted to the old man still standing outside.

After saying goodbye, Lin Mo followed the signs straight to the registration office in the administration building.

Nuoding Academy wasn't large: a main teaching block, a sports field, and east of it the dormitory building.

The administration office was on the ground floor of the main building. When Lin Mo arrived, Tang San had just finished signing up behind Grandmaster and was about to leave.

An elderly teacher in his sixties presided over registration, assisted by two younger instructors in their twenties.

The moment they saw Lin Mo, the assistants stepped forward to take the bedding from his arms and set it on a spare table.

After thanking them, Lin Mo produced the Spirit Hall certificate and handed it to the young male teacher.

'Another Work-Study Student?'

Reading the details, the teacher gave Lin Mo an extra glance. 'Egg Martial Soul? There's such a thing?'

'Oh?' Director Su, the senior among them, exclaimed softly, took the certificate, and studied it carefully.

Lin Mo waited silently.

Soon Director Su looked up, eyeing him with curiosity. 'Child, can you release your Spirit for me to see?'

'Of course.'

Lin Mo nodded; the little fire dragon egg reappeared in his arms.

At the sight, both young teachers gaped.

'It really is an egg?'

'An egg can produce six-level Innate spirit power?'

'So what? Didn't we just have a Blue Silver Grass with Innate Full Spirit Power?'

'Strange things every year—this year's overflowing...'

Director Su adjusted his glasses, scrutinizing the egg, but like Su Yuntaohe could find nothing unusual.

'All right, you may put it away,' he said. 'Here are your complimentary supplies.

You are in dormitory seven. As a Work-Study Student you'll be assigned chores; only after completing them will you earn your allowance.

The teacher in charge of seven will give you the details.'

'Thank you!'

Lin Mo accepted the items, bundled them with his bedding, thanked Director Su, and left.

Watching him go, the young male teacher muttered, 'Is that kid really six? He's built like an ox and stronger than most.'

'Maybe that's the advantage of his so-called mutated egg—far greater strength,' the young female teacher guessed uncertainly.

While they murmured, Lin Mo had already left for the dormitory.

Nuoding had only one dormitory block with seven large student rooms; Work-Study Students occupied the worst, number seven.

At the door he happened to see Tang San kick Wang Sheng flying, so he paused to let the drama finish.

Tang San picked up his uniform and looked down at Wang Sheng. 'Will you move aside now?'

'I'm convinced.'

Wang Sheng flushed and grinned. 'From today you're the boss of dorm seven!'

'Boss, looks like we've got another newcomer,' a Work-Study Studentwhispered.

Everyone turned toward Lin Mo standing in the doorway.

'Don't bother—I don't like fighting.'

Lin Mo shrugged, carried his bedding inside, chose a relatively clean bunk, and set his things down.

With Tang San's example fresh, the other boys dared not provoke him and simply watched.

'I'm not a combat-type Spirit Master; this is my Spirit.' Lin Mosummoned the little fire dragon egg once more and cradled it.
