Chapter 55 -  Don’t Worry — When It Comes to Dealing with Hostesses, I’m a Professional

"The entire skin was peeled off and put onto one of those fake mannequins from clothing stores."

"And the mannequin was even dressed in a wedding gown."

"Damn it… the first time I saw it, I was so scared I couldn't sleep properly for days."

Ma Jun listened quietly as the man spoke.

All of this, he had already read in the case file.

What he wanted now were details that weren't in the report.

"So what you're saying is… Qiqi killed them?" Ma Jun asked.

"The one who died first?"

"No!"

Fear surfaced in the man's eyes.

"A lot of people in the building saw it. It was Qiqi who came back."

"How did Qiqi die?" Ma Jun asked again.

"She was murdered too," the man sighed.

"You know how dangerous this line of work is, sir."

"If your luck is bad and you run into a pervert client, that's it."

His tone carried genuine regret.

"Qiqi was actually pitiful. She wasn't like the other girls."

"She worked hard, saved money to study. I even heard she found a boyfriend who didn't mind her background and treated her well."

"She once told me that after working another half year, once she'd saved enough, she was going to get married."

Ma Jun shook his head slightly.

Classic death flag.

"What kind of relationship did Qiqi have with the other victims?" he asked.

"Nothing special," the man thought for a moment.

"There aren't really 'sisters' in this business. Relationships are shallow."

"No one really opens up. The turnover is huge—many girls work a few days, make quick money, and leave."

"Just nodding acquaintances, at most."

"No conflicts?" Ma Jun pressed.

"Like fighting over clients?"

The man smiled awkwardly.

"Sir, you might not know this, but we don't need to fight for clients here."

"People from all over the world come every day. If you want to work, you can't even handle all the demand."

After more questioning, Ma Jun realized there was no more valuable information to extract.

"Alright," he said. "If anything comes up, I'll contact you again."

"Oh right—what should I call you?"

The man immediately forced a smile.

"Call me Brother Hu—no, no. Just A-Hu is fine."

"Good. I'm going to check the crime scene. No one's there now, right?"

A-Hu's face instantly turned pale.

"Definitely no one! Who would dare go there now? That's asking to die."

"Sir, you should be careful too. Your colleagues were attacked the last time they investigated."

"They said they couldn't even tell if it was human or a ghost. Fast—too fast. Your colleague almost died."

Ma Jun's lips curled slightly.

If he were attacked, the outcome definitely wouldn't be the same as that unlucky Hong Kong cop.

Ma Jun and Jiang Han walked into Hengxing Building.

The lighting inside was dim—probably because of the nature of the business. Bright lights wouldn't be appropriate here.

Jiang Han felt stifled and took the initiative to speak.

"What do you think about this case? Was it really done by a ghost?"

Ma Jun thought for a moment, then answered casually:

"Whether it was a ghost or not isn't actually important."

"Our goal is simply to identify the murderer."

"There's no such thing as love or hatred without cause."

"Since people saw Qiqi killing others, then we start with her."

Jiang Han was curious.

"How do we investigate?"

"Ask directly," Ma Jun said, pointing at the doors lining both sides of the hallway.

"With this many people in the building, someone will know something."

"Listen widely, verify carefully. Ask enough questions, and clues will appear."

Jiang Han's lips parted slightly. She was skeptical.

You could really get clues just by asking?

Even veteran detectives wouldn't dare guarantee that.

Ma Jun was strong, sure—but he was still just a sixteen-year-old boy. Did he really have that ability?

Very soon, Jiang Han was completely stunned.

She witnessed firsthand what it meant to be universally adored.

What real charisma looked like.

What true honey-trap interrogation meant.

Behind every door was a different style of hostess—

"Exotic Russian girl," "Singaporean sweetheart," "Fresh 19-year-old newcomer."

Every type imaginable.

What Jiang Han couldn't understand was that everyone reacted almost the same way to Ma Jun.

Especially those middle-aged "auntie"-type women with signs like "Endless Charm" and "Irresistible Flavor."

They practically wanted to swallow him whole.

As long as Ma Jun opened his mouth, they were ready to tell him everything—

even what color underwear they preferred.

Jiang Han went from shock, to disbelief, to total confusion.

In less than three hours, Ma Jun had gathered a massive amount of valid information.

That even included nearly an hour of "entertainment" with the hostesses.

After speaking with so many people, the overall picture of the case gradually took shape.

A-Hu hadn't lied.

Many people had indeed personally seen Qiqi appear.

Qiqi had died half a year ago.

She was stabbed to death in her room. By the time she was discovered, she was already cold.

Many felt sorry for her.

She really was a good girl—kind to others, knew how to conduct herself, never deliberately stole clients.

When she died, quite a few fellow hostesses had voluntarily burned paper offerings for her.

But the three who died afterward—

They didn't have nearly as good a reputation.
