Chapter 65: Kurapika's First Battle

Worm is thinking too much.

That was Ronin's honest thought as he threw the rock.

He said he'd handle two; he wasn't going to let Worm harass Kurapika and Neon.

The Sharingan's insight revealed the dense aura lurking underground.

While retracting his throwing arm, his hands formed seals in front of his chest.

Earth Style: Opening Earth Rising Excavation.

Ronin slammed his hands onto the ground, injecting Chakra. The earth nearby swelled into a hump!

The hump grew, forming a small volcano. The next second, Worm, "swimming" toward Kurapika, was ejected from the crater by a massive eruptive force.

This B-Rank Jutsu was used by Kitsuchi and Kurotsuchi to unearth the White Zetsu army in the anime.

Used by Ronin here, the mini-volcano was perfectly suited to spit out a single Worm!

Worm never expected to be launched into the sky by the ground itself.

Flying through the air, he was completely bewildered!

But Ronin was ready. When the volcano formed, he dashed.

As Worm was ejected, Ronin appeared beside him as if predicting his trajectory. A fist charged with powerful Nen hammered into Worm's lower back.

BANG!

Before he could recover from the shock, Worm plummeted like a ball, smashing into the ground.

He landed in the classic Yamcha death pose! Ronin, landing nearby, looked satisfied.

In the sky, Bat failed to dodge the rock completely. It punched a hole in his wing.

He struggled to stay airborne.

When the five-meter volcano erupted from the street, he knew things were bad.

He saw Ronin fly earlier to escape the Troupe.

He thought anyone chased by the Troupe had value, so he targeted Ronin.

Now he realized Ronin was no soft persimmon. They were equals—partners, even.

Thinking this, Bat swallowed his pride as a Shadow Beast.

"We can talk!" He shouted from above, his tone full of compromise.

Ronin's display of power showed him the gap. Bat felt that even escaping might be a luxury now.

Perhaps he shouldn't have shown hostility or attacked first.

Ronin didn't look at Worm again. That punch shattered Worm's spine. If he survived that, Ronin would question if he really had worm DNA.

As for Bat's proposal? Ronin scoffed.

Oh! You can't win, so now you want to talk? Where was this attitude earlier?

True to the Emitter stereotype—impulsive and rough.

Ronin's goal from the start was to get intel on the Ten Dons from the Shadow Beasts.

Bat and the others delivering themselves to him was perfect. But he only needed Owl alive. Bat had to die.

"Come down first," Ronin scanned the other two battles, then spoke to Bat.

The other fights weren't as easy as his.

Owl wielded the Fun Fun Cloth like a weapon, deflecting Kurapika's chain attacks.

The distance between them was closing. Owl looked ready to drop the cloth on Kurapika at any moment.

But Kurapika seemed oblivious, continuing to spar with his little finger chain.

Just as Owl took another step, he felt a binding sensation.

Something's wrong!

The thought barely formed before Owl froze. His cloth dropped. His arms were bound to his sides by an unseen force.

A chain finally materialized, connected to Kurapika's middle finger.

In.

He had used In to hide the Chain Jail while moving, laying a trap nearby.

If Owl approached without noticing the hidden chain, he was guaranteed to be caught.

Kurapika had spotted Owl's weakness in their brief contact.

Although Owl had a Hatsu, his combat application of Nen was crude.

He only used basic Ren, not Ken.

He didn't maintain Gyo in his eyes, missing vital information.

In became the finishing move.

This is the half-baked user Big Brother Ronin talked about. Knowing Nen exists but lacking a systematic understanding.

No specific training, no knowledge of the importance of Gyo, In, Ken, or Ryu in combat.

Dealing with such a guy just required a little brainpower.

Kurapika raised his index finger.

A syringe appeared at the end of the chain on his index finger. Under Owl's shocked gaze, the needle pierced his body.

A sense of weakness washed over Owl.

His Nen was being sucked out.

Steal Chain!
