Nora's POV
"You never read newspapers." James sets his empty coffee mug down and sits back in the booth. We're at Valerie's Café, supposedly doing research for his potential business investment. Really, I'm using this as an excuse to order everything on the menu and eat away my stress.
"I read them sometimes," I tell him, flipping through the pages until I find the crime section. I point to a small article about a missing woman from Oakley. "Things like this usually connect to something bigger."
"Demons," he says, and I nod.
"Usually low-level ones. They're pretty easy to take down. It's almost enjoyable, if I'm being honest." I study the article again. "It's depressing that this is all they wrote about her. She didn't show up to work one day, and all it says is call police if you've seen her."
"Humans have strange priorities. They panic about things that don't matter while ignoring real threats. The way people react to snowstorms here always amazes me."
