My pulse quickens when I spot her, but the shock doesn't hit me like it used to. I understand now that this woman isn't truly my mother. I have a real mother somewhere. One who actually loved me. Cared for me deeply.
Died to give me life.
We shared some beautiful years before my powers started manifesting. Years when Livia must have genuinely loved me like her biological children. She had no reason to doubt anything back then.
She raised me from infancy. Fed me when I was hungry. Rocked me when I cried through the night. I was her baby, the final child she'd ever have after getting her tubes tied following my birth. She loved me completely, at least for those precious early years.
How she managed to switch off that maternal love, to stand by silently while I was thrown away like garbage... it makes my stomach churn.
