Nora's POV
James's warm palm settles against my shoulder, gentle but insistent. "Wake up, my love. We've arrived at the hospital."
"I wasn't actually sleeping," I protest, though my voice comes out thick and groggy as I force myself upright in the passenger seat.
"You were definitely sleeping," James says with that low chuckle that sends heat through my chest. "I can always tell. Your heartbeat slows down just slightly when you drift off."
I reach back to massage my neck, rolling my head from side to side to work out the kinks. Car naps are the worst - they leave me feeling more exhausted than before. James kills the engine, and I blink hard several times, trying to clear the mental haze that always follows an unplanned rest.
The fatigue still clings to me like a heavy blanket.
