I exhale slowly and step backward, grabbing James's hand so we can finally leave this nightmare behind. "I don't think they truly understood what they were unleashing. If they genuinely believed they were punishing some evil witch, then in their minds, they were doing something righteous. The real problem is they were manipulated, and now they possess dangerous knowledge. Just knowing how to summon dark entities puts people without magical abilities at serious risk. They have no protection against what they might accidentally call forth."
"Contact Gideon immediately," James says as we step onto the back patio. He lifts his nose, testing the night air. "I'm going to check the surrounding forest. Wait here for me."
"Alright," I agree. "Do you have your phone? Mine's still in the car."
