Nora's POV
The sound of the gunshot reaches my ears a split second before I realize James has moved in front of me. The pain I expected never comes, but James lets out a low, threatening growl that makes my blood run cold.
A second shot rings out, this one finding its mark in James's stomach.
Despite the wounds, James launches himself forward with inhuman speed. His hand closes around the gunman's wrist and I hear the distinct crack of breaking bones. The weapon tumbles from the shooter's grip and clatters across the deck. Without hesitation, I use my telekinetic abilities to send the gun flying over the railing and into the dark lake below. It's strange how facing demonic creatures and swarms of possessed rats felt manageable, but having a gun pointed directly at me sends terror straight through my core.
