Nora's POV
James charges forward with fangs extended, launching himself at the demon. The creature's black eyes shimmer with malice as it sneers, raising one hand to send James crashing backward through the wall. Mack leaps into action next, but the demon lifts its other hand, freezing my familiar mid-attack.
The demon slowly lowers its grip, forcing Mack's shadow down until it slips through a crack between the floorboards.
"No!" I scream, reaching desperately for my familiar. My hands fly up instinctively, hurling them toward the demon with all my strength. The force shoves him back just enough to break his hold on Mack. My familiar reappears instantly at my side, circling protectively around me.
