Nora's POV
"What brings you here?" I snap my book shut and rise from my chair, scanning the bookstore nervously. Several customers browse the shelves, and I refuse to let Brent drag me into any drama right now.
Brent raises both palms defensively. "I only want to talk, I promise."
"Fine," I exhale, too drained to fight. Brent appears exhausted as well, and while our confrontation in the forest feels like ancient history, it happened mere hours ago. "How is Reina doing?"
"The doctors say she'll recover fully, because of what you did."
"What James and I did," I correct sharply, though Brent pretends not to hear me. "I'm relieved to hear that. You know Reina and I always got along well."
"I remember. That's exactly why I needed to thank you face to face."
"Thank me?" My eyebrows shoot up. "Now that's unexpected."
