"Holy shit!" Ophelia snatches my hand, examining my ring under the porch light.
"This is absolutely stunning!"
"Thanks," I beam, unable to contain my excitement. We had just finished dinner and decided to stop by Ophelia's place downtown, only blocks away from the restaurant. "I'm engaged. God, that feels surreal to say out loud."
"Get inside, both of you," she says, stepping back to make room. We're standing on her charming covered porch, and she needs to properly invite James in since this is his first visit. Ophelia's house screams old-world charm with its historical bones and obsessive cleanliness. Massive potted plants dominate every corner, while tiny herb planters crowd each windowsill.
Dahlia, Ophelia's familiar, has an incredible gift for nurturing plant life, and brewing helpful potions ranks as Ophelia's absolute favorite pastime.
