Chapter 37 - Ainz Ooal Gown: The Effect of a World Item?

Umuuu...

For some reason, I found myself in a precarious situation. Nazarick has plenty of anti-magic defenses, even spatial or teleportation magic, but for whatever reason, they didn't work.

"Greater Luck!" It's the last buff out of twenty that I hastily cast as soon as I appeared here. Right now, this is a disadvantageous pvp for me. I am barely prepared.

Is this place the effect of a world item?

No, that can't be. I should be immune to it, considering that my red orb is still here and I don't feel any disturbance.

A high-tier magic? It could be.

I remained perfectly still for almost an hour. Waiting for something. As of now, I'm possibly dancing in the palm of my opponent. It was better to not give them an initiative by mindlessly walking around.

...

...

...

No one came?

I thought as I continued walking forward. Even though I am an undead, my stomach churned from the sight. This whole place reminded me of my bleak workplace. The colors came from the same shade while the fluorescent lights hummed.

It felt like I was back inside the office of my first job. I hated that place, and now I hate this place too.

"Rabbit Ears." A basic spell that increases my hearing.

It's been almost a day since I was transported here, and my ears, or whatever is allowing me to hear since I am an undead, are ringing from the deathly silence.

There's no one around for one hundred meters, there's no one around for four hundred meters. I was constantly casting Sense Enemy and Clairvoyance, but it yielded no results.

Is this place a prison?

Well, let's get facts straight first. First, this is not the work of a world item. Second, this place isn't magical by nature. Third, there's no one around. Fourth, it's very closely related to the modern world, judging by its structure.

The conclusion?

A limbo? Maybe this is some sort of mental prison? A trope where I am stuck in my own mind? If that may be, then that means I have gotten crazy and lost all my bearings.

Wait a minute. Was the transfer to the new world even real? What if it's all simulated? That would explain the sudden transfer. I am stuck in an advanced version of virtual reality.

Ah, my head hurts.

I continued walking and walking, mindlessly walking. I saw familiar things and strange things. I saw rows of computers, the older models at least. The one where the mouse had a little ball inside them. It's quite an antique; I only saw one in the books.

I take my word back, this isn't the modern world. This is like the past, a distant past, but misconstrued? Am I using that word correctly?

I found a leaflet on the floor. I picked it up, and I can't even read it, but I recognize the writing at least. It's in English and based on what little English I know. It's a leaflet for the grand opening of a mall.

I remember malls. I hated visiting the mall back then; the crematoriums were loud, and the air quality was not filtered; it's just as horrible as the outside environment.

I tried turning on some of the computers, but they wouldn't turn on. There were no plugs nor any wiring from the back side. The mouse and the keyboard were embedded into the computer unit, not inserted via slots.

Is this a mock-up? A fake?

Well, whatever. I've lost interest.

I have no choice but to keep on going.

"Summon Undead." A wide black pool appeared on the floor, and out came skeleton warriors; they were a higher tier of undead. I summoned at least fifty of them, then ordered them to scatter and scout the area.

I've decided to pull up a chair and slump in it. Almost a whole day of nothing, there's no one to talk to or anyone to fight. What is there to do other than walk around?

I summoned the staff of Ainz Ooal Gown out of my own inventory. This was the guild weapon entrusted to me, but as of right now. I am a king without a crown. I placed it inside my inventory again and slumped on the chair.

I should be alert, but my mind is exhausted. There's literally nothing to do other than look for the exit. Jircniv's empire was about to formally become a vassal state. I met him again to gather some documents and maybe a small celebration or more observation.

He's exactly the kind of leader that I aspire to be, a genius who always take the initiative.

Then the ground shifted and I found myself here.

I hope my guardians don't overreact. I know it seems bad disappearing out of nowhere, but Jircniv and his kingdom have no fault. Most likely.

Well...

I am sure they won't overreact.

...

...

...

It's been three hours, and my undead army hasn't reported to me yet. I could summon more, but I don't know how this place would react when there are too many mobs. I should at least be very wary of that.

I placed my right hand in front of me, and the first thing that caught my eye was my shooting star ring. My get-out-of-jail card.

[ Wish Upon A Star ] is a spell that allows me to wish for anything. Back in Yggdrasil, the wishes were limited, and there were only over two hundred of them. In the new world, however, that limitation ceased to exist, and I could wish for anything that I wanted.

Provided I can pay the massive price.

I don't know how much experience points it would cost to escape from here, but it will be expensive. This is my ace card as of right now. I should just look for the exit though.

I would rather not depend on this unless absolutely needed.

"Remote Viewing." I cast this spell earlier, but I got tired of looking at the same damn hallway and corridors of yellow. Seriously, if it weren't for my undead constitution.

I'd be a mess right now.
