Chapter 71 - CHAPTER 71 : Teasing

He did not return immediately.

That was expected.

What wasn't expected—

Was how easy it became to find him.

Ha-rin stepped into the hallway.

He was there.

Standing still.

Like nothing had happened.

"…You didn't go far," she said.

"No."

"…You said you needed a moment."

"This is sufficient."

She stared at him.

Then smiled.

Slowly.

"…I see."

That smile—

Was dangerous.

Breakfast was quiet.

At first.

Ha-rin sat across from him, chin resting lightly on her hand, watching.

Not eating.

Just watching.

"…You're staring," he said.

"Yes."

"…Why."

"…No reason."

"That is inaccurate."

"…Maybe."

She smiled again.

He looked away.

A few minutes later—

Her phone played something.

Soft at first.

Then clearer.

A song.

The line came through—

"I love you…"

She didn't look at the screen.

She looked at him.

Directly.

"…You should turn that off," he said.

"…Why."

"It is unnecessary."

"…I think it's very necessary."

"It is not."

She let the song play a few seconds longer.

Then turned it off.

"…You reacted," she said.

"I did not."

"…You looked away."

"That is not a reaction."

"That is exactly a reaction."

He did not respond.

Which was also a reaction.

Later—

She followed him into the kitchen.

Not close enough to touch.

Close enough to exist in his space.

"…Say it again," she said casually.

"No."

"…Why."

"It has already been stated."

"That's not how it works."

"It is sufficient."

"It is not."

Silence.

Then—

"…You ran away," she added.

"Yes."

"…That was impressive."

"It was necessary."

"…It was embarrassing."

"That is also accurate."

She laughed softly.

Throughout the day—

It didn't stop.

Small comments.

Lingering looks.

Perfectly timed silence.

Every time he relaxed—

"…I love—"

"Do not finish that sentence," he said immediately.

She smiled.

"…Sensitive."

"Yes."

"…Good."

By evening—

He had stopped trying to avoid it.

Not because it didn't affect him.

Because it was ineffective.

They sat together again.

Closer than before.

The space between them—

Gone.

"…You're not running now," she said.

"No."

"…Progress."

"Yes."

She leaned back slightly, satisfied.

"…Good."

That night—

The apartment was quiet again.

But different.

Lighter.

Ha-rin lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.

The room dim.

Still.

Her hand rested loosely beside her.

Her thoughts—

Not.

"…I love you," she whispered softly.

Repeating it.

Testing it.

Feeling it.

Her face warmed.

Slowly.

Then more.

"…Idiot," she muttered.

A small smile followed.

Then—

She turned slightly, pulling the blanket closer.

"…Me too," she said quietly.

No audience.

No reaction.

Just—

Honest.

Her eyes closed.

Still smiling.
