Chapter 14 - chapter 14 flashback A Kiss Before the Fall

In the silence of the night, Henry and Laboni lay facing each other. The dim light of the chamber cast a heavy, mysterious aura around them. With extreme care and in slow, deliberate motions, Henry began to undo the buttons of the loose white shirt Laboni was wearing, one by one. Laboni lay as still as a statue, her breathing shallow and slow.

As the shirt loosened, Henry looked into Laboni's eyes and gave a peculiar smile. Then, he gently unfastened the ribbon of her bra, looking directly into her eyes and giving her a mischievous wink. This gesture of Henry's carried both a sense of absolute possession and extreme cunning. He believed that Laboni was now entirely a puppet in his hands.

Laboni still offered no protest. As Henry leaned in very close to her, she softly placed her hand on the back of his neck. Henry took this as a sign of her surrender, but he did not know that Laboni's fingertips still carried the burning fire of revenge.

While the prison guards patrolled outside, inside, Henry was intoxicated by a magical obsession with Laboni. He whispered into her ear, "The more you defy me, the more I will claim you as my own. Tomorrow morning, in front of the DIG, you will belong only to me."

With a faint, pale smile, Laboni drew even closer to Henry. She thought to herself, "Henry, the one you are trying to conquer with a wink will make you witness your own destruction through those very eyes tomorrow. This bed of yours will be the site of your downfall." The morning light has broken. Golden rays of sun, piercing through the window curtains, dance upon the faces of Henry and Laboni. A strange silence fills the room. It seems as though the horrors of the last night have been veiled by this morning light. Both Henry and Laboni are immersed in deep sleep. Henry holds Laboni tightly, as if she is his most precious treasure. That blue ribbon of Laboni's is still tangled in her disheveled hair.

Suddenly, a loud ringtone shatters the silence. It isn't an unknown number; the name 'Range DIG' flashes on the screen. Henry groggily reaches for the phone. It keeps ringing. Beside him, Laboni opens her eyes to the sound. She doesn't move; she just waits, holding her breath, for Henry's reaction. She knows this single phone call will change the course of everything today.

Henry answers the phone, his voice still heavy with sleep.

Henry: "Yes sir... Good morning."

The DIG's voice on the other end is even more stern and grave than before.

DIG: "Henry, I am at the prison gate. I'm heading inside after the security check. Be ready. And yes, make sure that doctor girl is in her proper place. I will speak to her directly."

The call ends. Henry's drowsiness vanishes in an instant. He realizes the situation is spiraling out of his control. The DIG has arrived without any prior notice. Henry quickly gets off the bed and looks at Laboni. His eyes are a mix of panic and rage.

He grabs Laboni by the arm, jerking her up. "Wake up! You have to go back to that cell right now. The DIG is coming in. If you say a single wrong word, I'll dig a grave for you and your brother right here in this jail!"

Laboni remains calm. As she fixes her messy hair, she looks into Henry's eyes and smiles—that same mysterious smile. She thinks to herself, "Henry, time is up. The curse has begun to take effect."

The Psychological Shift

Henry was rushing Laboni to get ready, but an odd restlessness was brewing within him. On one hand was the fear of the DIG, and on the other, his bizarre obsession with Laboni. As Laboni stepped off the bed calmly, Henry suddenly stood still.

He approached her, very close. With immense tenderness, he placed a long kiss on her forehead. He held her face with both hands. His eyes held a strange vulnerability that perhaps even he couldn't explain.

Henry: (In a low, desperate whisper) "Go, Laboni... go to your cell. Don't do anything reckless in front of the DIG. I promise, once this trouble settles, I will free you from all danger."

Laboni said nothing. She looked into his eyes and gave a tiny smile. Henry stroked her cheek one last time and said, "Go."

Laboni walked out of the room with steady steps. As she walked down the corridor, she felt that Henry had lost his power to rule today, trapped in a deep infatuation. While the DIG entered through the gate, Laboni moved toward her dark cell. Saleha was shocked to see her from a distance because Laboni's eyes didn't show fear—they burned with a fierce determination for victory.

The Confrontation with the DIG

The gravity in the prison office was at its peak. The DIG arrived with full state dignity. Henry tried his best to maintain his arrogance. He wore his senior police officer's uniform—crisp, ironed clothes with shining rank badges on his shoulders.

Henry sat leaning back in his large office chair. One hand was in his pocket, while the other tapped a pen softly on the table. He wore a mask of artificial confidence, though internally he was worried about the DIG's movements.

The moment the DIG entered, Henry stood up and saluted.

DIG: (Gravely) "Sit down, Henry. The file of complaints against your prison has become quite heavy. Especially the case of Dr. Laboni."

Henry: (A sly smile appearing on his face) "Sir, you know criminals always throw mud at the protectors of the law. Dr. Laboni and her brother Rehan are part of a major drug syndicate. Perhaps because I'm interrogating them, things are being exaggerated outside."

The DIG leaned over the table. "I don't believe in rumors, Henry; I believe in evidence. I will speak to the girl privately right now. And yes, I want her brother's case file on my table."

Henry clenched his fist inside his pocket. He realized the DIG wouldn't give him an inch of leeway. He wondered—would the kiss he gave her this morning make her save him out of affection? Or would she take revenge for Rehan's bloodied forehead?

Henry: "Certainly, sir. Bokor! Bring Laboni before the DIG."

A moment later, the sound of heavy chains and boots echoed in the corridor. Laboni was being brought in. Henry looked at his reflection in the large office mirror—the scratches from last night, hidden under his white shirt, were still stinging. He prayed silently that Laboni would stay quiet.

The Game of Betrayal and Obsession

The office door opened. When Mr. Bokor entered, Laboni followed with a steady, calm gait. Despite the ordinary prisoner's clothes, her posture was regal. There was no fear in her eyes, only a cold stillness.

The DIG stood up and examined her closely. Her pale face, the blisters on her palms, and the bruises did not escape his sharp eyes. Henry sat there, hand in pocket, watching her out of the corner of his eye. A battle raged in his mind—would the girl he kissed this morning sink him, or would she protect him using her "cute" facade?

DIG: "Dr. Laboni, please sit. I want to talk to you personally. Henry, would you mind giving us a moment?"

Henry froze for a second. Before leaving, he whispered into Laboni's ear as he passed her, "Remember Rehan." It was a veiled threat.

Henry and Bokor waited outside in the corridor. Henry took out a cigar and lit it, but his hands were trembling. He knew that whatever Laboni said within those four walls would decide his fate. Inside, the DIG offered Laboni some water.

DIG: "Tell me, child, what has happened to you? Don't be afraid. I am here on behalf of the government. Has Henry committed any atrocities against you? Why was your brother screaming?"

Laboni stared at the glass of water. Then she slowly pulled up her sleeve, revealing the dark bruises from Henry's iron grip. She looked the DIG in the eye and gave a strange smile.

Laboni: "Sir, the rules of the prison are the same for everyone, aren't they? Henry Saheb taught me those rules very well. He taught me how to surrender to the ruler."

Her tone was ambiguous. Was she hinting at framing him, or was she setting a larger trap by saving him?

The Final Twist

The DIG tried to read the depth of her silence. He asked again, "Dr. Laboni, are you under any pressure? You can tell me everything without hesitation. I've heard about your brother's condition. Is Henry responsible?"

Laboni paused. Rehan's cry—"Curse"—was still ringing in her ears. She looked out the window and saw Henry pacing anxiously, glancing at the door. The memory of Henry's morning kiss flashed in her mind. She decided to play a dangerous game.

Leaning toward the DIG, she said softly:

Laboni: "Sir, what I am about to say will be hard for you to believe. Henry Saheb is a strict officer, but he has another side. For the past few days, he kept me in his room. He wanted me to be a partner in his crimes."

The DIG was shocked. "What are you saying! Can you prove this?"

Laboni pointed to her neck. "Sir, the marks on my body are proof. And look at Henry Saheb's diary, kept in a secret compartment under his drawer. He keeps the accounts of his drug syndicate there. He thought I had fallen in love with him, so he showed me everything."

Just then, Henry knocked and entered. Seeing Laboni's calm face, he thought she had saved him. With a smile, he said, "Sir, is the interview over? Surely the Doctor told you how disciplined I am?"

The DIG stood up, his face red with rage. He screamed at Henry, "Shut up, Henry! Give me the keys to your drawer. Right now!"

The ground slipped from beneath Henry's feet. He looked at Laboni—the girl who had sat in his lap like a child this morning now had the cruel fire of victory in her eyes. Laboni continued to look at him with that sweet, haunting smile.

Henry realized Laboni didn't love him; she had used his ego and obsession to drag him into an abyss. Rehan's curse was coming true.

The Aftermath

However, Henry was a predator raised in wild violence. As Laboni's words hit him, his dominance resurfaced. He realized she was trying to trap him in a mental web.

In a flash, Henry pinned Laboni against the wall. Before she could react, he trapped her with the weight of his body. He bent down and gripped her legs firmly so she couldn't move. He brought his face to her neck, his hot breath making her shiver.

In a state of intoxicated fury, he left a deep kiss on her neck. He whispered into her ear:

Henry: "Do you really think I'm that stupid, Laboni? You think telling stories about diaries and syndicates will allow you to rule over me? You may be a doctor, but I am the devil of this hell. You haven't saved me; you've just given me a chance to get closer to you."

He looked into her eyes with a twisted smile. "You talk about me being your puppet? Look, you are still trapped between this wall and my body. The more you play hide-and-seek with me, the more I will consume you."

He pulled out the blue belt he had used as a ribbon earlier. He used it to press her hands against the wall. "The game is even now, Doctor. Now tell me, what is your next move?"

The Descent into Darkness

Henry's eyes were glowing with lust and rage. He refused to listen to her. He wrapped the blue belt around her neck and gave it a violent tug. Laboni's body arched against his chest. She struggled to breathe, but Henry didn't care.

Henry: (Gritting his teeth) "From today, you are only mine. The DIG is gone, and inside these walls, there is no one to save you. You thought you'd make me dance? Look, one pull and your life could end. Today will be a nightmare you will never forget."

Laboni scratched at his hands in agony, but Henry enjoyed the pain. He began dragging her toward the door by the belt.

The room soon became a scene of horror. Henry, drenched in sweat and fueled by a sadistic triumph, laughed as he overpowered her. He had achieved what he wanted—he had crushed her physically and mentally to satisfy his patriarchal ego.

He leaned over her, whispering mockingly, "Feels good, doesn't it? This suffocation, this pain... this is what you deserved. From now on, this room is your hell every night."

Laboni had no strength left to answer. She stared blankly at the ceiling while the sound of Rehan's crying drifted through the dark corridors of the prison.
