Chapter 17 - chapter 17Present Day A Kiss Before the Fall

Present Day: Three Years Later

A luxurious penthouse in the city. Beyond the glass windows, the sky is heavy with clouds. Laboni is no longer the helpless girl from prison, nor merely a doctor struggling to survive. She is now one of the most powerful women in the city. She wears an expensive silk sari, a diamond necklace resting on her collarbone. Yet the coldness in her eyes has grown even deeper than before.

Henry came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her. He is no longer a high-ranking police officer; he is now the owner of a vast corporate empire. Power has made him more arrogant.

Henry:

"What are you thinking about, staring outside the window? Still thinking about that prison?"

Laboni gave a faint smile. As she turned and straightened Henry's tie, she said softly,

"Prison lives inside my mind now, Henry. Outside, we are free."

Just then, the intercom buzzed. Laboni's PA informed them that their new business partner had arrived—a man who had conquered foreign markets over the past three years and had now returned home.

The door opened, and a tall, well-built young man walked in. Expensive sunglasses, a black suit—his presence commanded attention. Both Henry and Laboni froze.

The man removed his sunglasses and placed them on the table. His gaze was as sharp as ever, but now it carried a terrifying confidence. It was Rehan.

Rehan smiled—but that smile pierced Laboni's chest like an arrow.

Rehan:

"Hello, Mr. Henry. Long time no see. And… how are you, Apa? I hear you're the queen of this empire now."

Laboni's hands began to tremble. She understood—three years ago, the brother she had left behind in the name of freedom had not returned seeking liberation. He had returned to settle accounts.

Three years had passed since those bitter memories. Laboni was now pregnant. Motherhood had softened her, made her calmer and more graceful. The greatest change, however, lay in their family dynamic. After Rehan's return, the air was no longer filled with revenge; instead, his love for his sister had become paramount.

The path from the grand bungalow's drawing room to the garden sloped slightly downward. Laboni walked slowly, her body heavy, fatigue weighing on her. Suddenly, Rehan hurried forward and firmly held her hand.

Rehan (gently):

"Apa, be careful. Why walk alone when I'm here? Hold my hand."

Laboni looked at him and smiled with deep contentment. The brother who had once been chained in a dark prison cell was now her greatest strength and support. Rehan placed a hand on her shoulder and guided her toward a garden bench.

Laboni:

"You watch over me so closely, Rehan. Even Henry doesn't take this much care."

Rehan smiled faintly. He might never forget what Henry had done in the past, but for the sake of his sister and her unborn child, he restrained his hatred.

Rehan:

"Mr. Henry is busy with business. But in your condition, no one understands you better than I do. You've sacrificed so much for us. Now it's your turn to be cared for."

As Laboni walked across the grass, she rested a hand on her belly. She thought to herself—yes, she had once fallen in love on the wrong path, but today, with her brother by her side, she felt like the happiest woman in the world.

Rehan carefully helped her sit on the bench and sat beside her, resting a hand on her head.

From behind the window, Henry watched them. The demonic cruelty that once lived in his eyes was gone. Laboni's motherhood and Rehan's return had changed him—at least a little.

Night fell quietly.

In the vast master bedroom, soft blue lights glowed. In the middle of the bed lay Sara—Henry's young daughter from his first marriage. She slept peacefully, one hand resting on Laboni, the other on Henry's chest.

Laboni gently stroked Sara's hair. The warmth of her motherhood gave Sara an indescribable sense of safety. Sara might not remember her biological mother, but in Laboni she had found her entire refuge. Laboni was no longer just a pregnant woman—she was Sara's true mother.

Henry looked at Laboni, his eyes no longer holding the harshness of a jailer. He clasped her hand.

Henry (softly):

"Sometimes I can't believe I deserve this happiness. Sara changed after she got you. And our unborn child… maybe when the baby comes, all my past sins will finally be washed away."

Laboni looked at him calmly.

Laboni:

"We can't change the past, Henry. But I want Sara's future—and the world our child is born into—to be beautiful."

In her sleep, Sara hugged Laboni tighter. Laboni smiled and kissed her forehead. Outside the window, the night sky looked clearer than ever.

Henry kissed Laboni's forehead.

"I promise—I will never let this peace be destroyed again."

Laboni closed her eyes. The hands that once caused her pain were now protecting her and a small child. A strange life—where hatred had finally transformed into a complex yet deep love.

It was past midnight.

The house was asleep when Laboni suddenly shuddered. A sharp, unbearable pain tore through her abdomen. She curled up, sweat beading on her forehead, struggling to breathe.

Henry slept beside her, one hand still resting on Sara. Laboni clutched his hand with all her strength.

Laboni (weakly):

"Henry… wake up… I can't… I can't take it anymore!"

Henry jolted awake. Seeing Laboni writhing in pain, tears streaming down her face, panic seized him.

Henry:

"Laboni! What's wrong? Does it hurt too much? Sara, wake up!"

Sara woke up frightened and clung to her mother.

Sara:

"Mom! What's wrong, Mom?"

Through clenched teeth, Laboni whispered,

"I think… it's time. Call Rehan… please… I can't endure this."

Henry shouted for Rehan. Rehan had already heard his sister's cries and rushed in.

Rehan:

"Apa! Don't be afraid, I'm here. Mr. Henry, what are you standing there for? Get the car—now!"

Rehan held Laboni's hands tightly. She squeezed so hard that his nails dug into his skin.

Laboni:

"Rehan… I'm scared… I think I might die…"

Rehan:

"Don't say that! You're a doctor—you know this is the beginning of a new life. You're strong, Apa. Nothing will happen to you."

They rushed her to the hospital, Sara crying in the back seat as the silent streets flew past.

The hospital corridor was tense.

After a long wait, the operation theater doors opened. A nurse stepped out, cradling a tiny bundle wrapped in white.

Nurse:

"Congratulations! You have a beautiful baby girl."

Henry and Rehan froze. Henry took his daughter in trembling hands. The baby's face resembled Laboni—serene and luminous. Tears filled Henry's eyes.

Henry:

"Look, Rehan… she looks just like her mother, doesn't she?"

Rehan gently touched the baby's forehead.

"How is my sister?"

Nurse:

"The mother is stable, but very weak. You can see her now."

Inside, Laboni lay pale but radiant. Henry placed the baby on her chest.

Laboni (whispering):

"My daughter… my princess."

Sara clapped happily.

"My little sister is here!"

Rehan stroked Laboni's hair.

"Today, all the darkness in our lives has ended, Apa. You've given birth to a new queen."

Laboni held her daughter's tiny fingers and prayed that her child's world would be filled only with love.

A sunny afternoon in America.

Maple trees lined the streets as a happy family walked together. No prisons, no revenge—only a new beginning miles away.

Henry carried his baby, peace written across his face. Laboni walked beside him, holding his hand tightly. Sara skipped along, laughing and pointing at shops.

A black Rolls-Royce stopped beside them. They stepped inside.

As the car moved forward, Laboni looked out the window. Once a prisoner—now a queen of her own world.

The story ended here, in fulfillment and quiet happiness.

After passing through darkness, Laboni finally ruled a life she had built with her own strength and love.
