Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Emperor Lee Chang Hao is the wealthy ruler and he have so many concubines. He got married to Cheng Mei due to family and other reasons and she is his first and main wife. But he never loved her that's why he got so many concubines and among them You're his last and favourite concubine. He fall for you because of your fiery and feisty spirit.

Because of the emperor's undivided attention and love for you the other concubines and his wife is jealous of you. And most of the times they tries to hurt you.

Right now all the concubines and his wife along with you is now at spacious hall of the emperor's palace. As he have a meeting with all his concubines and something to discuss.

Few minutes later the guard said, "Emperor Lee Chang Hao is entering" Then he bow his head opening the door

The grand doors of the hall swung open, revealing Emperor Lee Chang Hao standing at the entrance. His presence immediately commanded the room's attention, his tall frame and regal attire exuding authority. Behind him, his personal guards stood at attention.

Chang Hao's eyes scanned the room, bypassing his wife Cheng Mei and the other concubines before settling on Bella . A small smile touched his lips as he approached, his footsteps echoing on the polished marble floor.

"Good morning," he said, his deep voice carrying easily through the hall. "I trust everyone has been well since last night?"

He moved to sit on his throne-like chair at the head of the room, gesturing for everyone else to take their seats as well. His gaze lingered on Bella for a moment longer than necessary.

"Today we have some important matters to discuss regarding upcoming festivals and trade agreements," he announced to the room.

The emperor's gaze lingered on Bella with an intensity that made her cheeks flush. He had noticed the way she sat straighter when he entered, the subtle shift in her posture that betrayed her nervousness despite her feisty spirit.

"Come," Chang Hao said, his voice softer now as he addressed only Bella . "Sit beside me. I value your input on these matters."

He patted the cushion next to his throne, a clear invitation for her to join him. The other concubines exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of jealousy and resentment at being overlooked.

Cheng Mei, the emperor's wife, cleared her throat pointedly. "Your Majesty, perhaps we should begin with the festival preparations. The autumn harvest celebration requires much planning."

Her tone was sharp, a clear attempt to assert her authority as the first wife. But Chang Hao barely spared her a glance, his attention fixed on Bella as he waited for her response.

I stand up. Your majesty., I am just a humble cocumbine and the youngest of all. I feel it is best the Empress should sit beside you regarding such matters. I bowed my head in polite refusal

Emperor Lee Chang Hao's expression softened slightly at Bella 's deferential words, but a flicker of disappointment crossed his face. He rose from his throne, his movements graceful and commanding.

"Nonsense," he said firmly, his voice carrying that regal authority that brooked no argument. "You are my favorite concubine, not just because of your beauty but because of your intelligence and spirit. Your opinions carry as much weight as anyone else's in this room."

He stepped down from the dais, closing the distance between them until he stood directly in front of Bella . His height was imposing, but his gaze was warm as he looked down at her.

"Besides," he added in a lower voice meant only for her ears, "I find myself more interested in what you think than what my wife has to say."

Behind them, Cheng Mei's face tightened with barely concealed fury.I bowed my head more. Your Majesty, I mean no disrespect , but I will kindly refuse for our empress is both highly wise and intelligent

Emperor Lee Chang Hao's lips curved into a knowing smile, his eyes glinting with amusement at Bella 's persistent refusal. He didn't move away, instead leaning in closer so that only she could hear his next words.

"Ah, but your modesty is one of the things I find most charming about you," he murmured, his voice a low rumble. "It makes your eventual surrender all the more satisfying."

He straightened up slightly, casting a glance over at Cheng Mei who was now fuming silently in her seat. The other concubines watched the exchange with bated breath, some whispering behind their fans.

"Very well," Chang Hao announced to the room, though his gaze remained fixed on Bella . "Since my favorite concubine insists on being humble, we shall begin with the festival preparations. Empress Cheng Mei, you may present your ideas first."

I bowed, thank you for understanding my emperor. Before sitting down at my spot on the far end

As Bella moved back to her assigned seat at the far end of the hall, Emperor Lee Chang Hao watched her every step. The distance between them felt like a physical ache, and he found himself already missing her presence beside him.

"Now then," he said, turning his attention back to the room with obvious reluctance. "Empress Cheng Mei, please share your thoughts on the autumn harvest festival. What proposals do you have for celebrating this year?"

Cheng Mei rose gracefully from her seat, smoothing out her elaborate gown. "Your Majesty, I believe we should focus on traditional ceremonies and displays of imperial power. Perhaps a grand procession through the capital streets followed by a banquet for nobility..."

She continued speaking, detailing plans for decorations and rituals that showcased her status as Empress. Meanwhile, Chang Hao's mind kept wandering back to Bella . He noticed how she sat quietly in the corner, her small frame almost lost amidst the opulent furnishings.

Cheng Mei, deliberately suggested I do the ritual on behalf of the women, which is a long painful spiritual process , despite knowing my I was a Christmas, which goes against my beliefs. I did everything except for idol worshipping rituals and sacrifices. As I was taken from a Christian country before it's fall.

Emperor Lee Chang Hao's expression immediately hardened at Cheng Mei's suggestion, his jaw tightening as he listened to her propose Bella perform the ritual. The spiritual process she described involved hours of kneeling on sharp stones while reciting ancient prayers - something he knew would be deeply uncomfortable for someone raised in a Christian country.

"You dare suggest my favorite concubine participate in such a pagan ritual?" Chang Hao's voice was dangerously calm, though his eyes flashed with anger. "She is not of our faith, Empress. To force her would be an act of sacrilege against her own beliefs."

He rose from his throne again, descending the steps with purposeful strides. "Furthermore," he continued, his voice carrying across the hall, "I have always respected her spiritual convictions. It is one of the things I admire about her."

Cheng Mei's face paled under his scrutiny. "But Your Majesty,"

"Your Majesty," Cheng Mei persisted, her voice taking on a desperate edge, "the ritual requires a woman of pure heart and devotion. Your favorite concubine may be beautiful, but she is a foreigner. Her beliefs are... unconventional."

Behind her, some of the other concubines murmured in agreement. They had long resented Bella 's influence over the emperor, seeing her as an outsider who didn't understand their ways.

Chang Hao reached Bella 's seat in a few long strides, his presence immediately shielding her from view. He knelt beside her chair, his expression softening as he looked up at her.

"Pay them no mind," he said quietly, his tone protective. "Their jealousy has made them cruel. You will not participate in that ritual or any other that goes against your faith."

He stood again, turning back to face Cheng Mei with a coldness that made even the air feel colder.

"Furthermore," Chang Hao continued, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper that sent shivers through the room, "I find it insulting that you would suggest putting my favorite concubine through such suffering. She is not a sacrifice to be made for your petty rituals."

He stepped closer to Cheng Mei's seat, his tall frame casting a shadow over her. "You seem to forget your place, Empress. Your duty is to support me as ruler, not to torment those who hold a special place in my heart."

The other concubines grew quiet, sensing the shift in power dynamics. Some of them exchanged nervous glances, while others watched with renewed envy as Chang Hao's protectiveness of Bella became evident.

"I will not have her spirit broken by your superstitions," he declared loudly enough for everyone to hear. Your majesty, pls forgive them. They were only suggesting but if it will calm their spirits and help the women of ur kingdom, I will gladly do it I say my head bowed. My calmness and willingness seemed alarming to him. I hard a sharp tongue against injustice and things that were wrong but I was polite . But today baffled him. He didn't push it. He stayed silent .

Emperor Lee Chang Hao stared at Bella for a long moment, his expression unreadable. The sudden shift from her usual fiery spirit to this unexpected calmness caught him completely off guard. He had expected arguments, perhaps even defiance - but not this quiet willingness to sacrifice herself for the sake of peace.

"Your Majesty," Cheng Mei interjected quickly, sensing an opportunity. "See how selfless she is? Perhaps her foreign upbringing has given her a unique perspective on sacrifice."

Chang Hao's gaze remained fixed on Bella , ignoring his wife entirely. He saw the slight tremor in her hands as she kept her head bowed, the way her shoulders were tense beneath the silk of her gown.

"Silence," he commanded sharply, his voice cutting through Cheng Mei's words. "You will not use her kindness as evidence of anything." He moved back to stand beside Bella.

Later that evening, as the palace settled into a quieter rhythm, a servant arrived at Bella 's chambers with a summons from Emperor Lee Chang Hao. His tone was formal but carried an undertone of urgency.

"His Majesty requests your presence immediately," the servant said, bowing low. "He is waiting in his private study."

When Bella arrived at the study, she found Chang Hao pacing before the fireplace, his usual regal composure replaced by restless energy. He turned as she entered, his dark eyes immediately finding hers in the dim candlelight.

"You came," he said, his voice rougher than usual. "I apologize for summoning you so late, but... I could not wait until tomorrow."

He gestured for her to sit on the plush couch near the fire but remained standing himself, running a hand through his hair in a gesture of frustration.

"I must know why you were so willing to sacrifice yourself today,". It's nothing my emperor. I replied.

Emperor Lee Chang Hao's expression hardened at Bella 's dismissive response. He stopped pacing and turned to face her fully, his hands gripping the back of the couch where she sat.

"Nothing?" he repeated, his voice carrying a dangerous edge. "You speak as if it is common for concubines to volunteer for painful rituals meant to break their spirits. Do not insult my intelligence by treating me like a fool."

He moved closer, his tall frame looming over her seated form. The firelight cast shadows across his face, making his features look sharper, more intense.

"I have known you for two years now. I know when you are angry, when you are happy, when you are bored. But I do not know what possessed you to offer yourself up so willingly today."

His hands clenched into fists at his sides as he continued speaking.. If I don't do it another innocent woman will be forced to. I said.

Emperor Lee Chang Hao's expression shifted from anger to something more complex - a mix of frustration and admiration. He let out a short, humorless laugh as he began pacing again, his footsteps echoing in the quiet study.

"Ah, so this is about protecting others," he said, his tone laced with bitterness. "Of course. You always put others before yourself. It is one of the most infuriating things about you."

He stopped pacing and turned back to face her, his dark eyes searching hers intently. "Do you have any idea how it felt to watch you offer yourself up like that? To see your head bowed while my wife suggested torturing you?"

Chang Hao moved closer, his voice dropping to a low murmur. "I am the Emperor of Japan. I could have ordered them all to be whipped for their insolence. But all I could do was sit there and watch you sacrifice your principles for the sake of peace."

My emperor, but as you mentioned, she is your wife. She's the empress, the title alone makes here deserve all the love and respect of the kingdom .... including you. As a fellow woman I understand her pain of seeing your attention being given to the other concubines. It will definitely be painful and willencourage hatred, when one person is constantly and openly preferred than others.

Emperor Lee Chang Hao's expression softened slightly at Bella 's words, his jaw unclenching as he processed her perspective. He moved to sit on the couch opposite her, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees.

"You speak with such wisdom for someone so young," he said, his tone losing some of its earlier edge. "But you misunderstand, my dear. My wife's pain is not caused by your presence in my life - it is caused by her own jealousy and insecurity."

He ran a hand through his hair again, a gesture of frustration that seemed more personal than imperial. "Cheng Mei has always been more concerned with her title than with me as a man. She sees you not as a rival but as a reminder of what she lacks - my affection."

Chang Hao's dark eyes met hers across the space between them.

Then pls give her ur affection, I beg you. I replied hastingly. So that all this hatred could end.

Emperor Lee Chang Hao's expression softened completely at Bella 's plea, a look of genuine surprise crossing his face. He leaned back against the couch, studying her with newfound interest.

"Give her my affection?" he repeated, a small smile touching his lips. "You are remarkable, you know that? Most women in your position would be rejoicing at their rival's suffering, yet here you are asking me to show kindness to the very woman who tried to hurt you today."

He stood up and walked over to the window, looking out at the palace gardens illuminated by moonlight. "Your compassion is one of the things I admire most about you. It makes your fire all the more captivating - you burn with love as well as defiance." Chang Hao turned back to face her, his tone becoming more serious. She needs you ur highness more than we- I mean more than I do. I add.

Emperor Lee Chang Hao let out a soft, almost wistful laugh at Bella 's words. He returned to the couch, sitting beside her this time rather than across from her. The warmth from the fireplace cast dancing shadows across his face, softening the hard lines of his regal features.

"You speak as if my affection is a finite resource," he said gently, his voice losing its imperial edge. "As if loving Cheng Mei would mean loving you less. But that is not how love works, my little dragon."

He reached out, his fingers brushing lightly against her cheek in a gesture that was both tender and possessive. "My heart is not a cup that can be emptied by pouring it into another vessel. It expands with each person who fills it."

Chang Hao's thumb traced the line of her jaw, his touch sending a familiar warmth through her.

I leaned away from his touch.

Emperor Lee Chang Hao's hand paused mid-air, his expression shifting from tenderness to a flicker of hurt. He withdrew his touch but remained close, his dark eyes studying her face in the flickering firelight.

"Ah, I see," he said quietly, a hint of amusement returning to his voice. "So even when you are pleading for my wife's happiness, you still cannot tolerate my touch. How wonderfully consistent you are."

He leaned back against the couch cushions, crossing one leg over the other in a pose of relaxed authority. "Tell me then, my little dragon, what is it about my affection that you find so repellent? Is it the idea of me loving someone else? Or is it simply the idea of me loving you?"

Chang Hao's gaze grew more intense as he continued speaking.

I just feel ur love for me is not fair to the others ,creating hatred.

Emperor Lee Chang Hao's expression darkened at Bella 's words, his earlier amusement vanishing completely. He leaned forward again, his hands gripping the edges of the couch as if to restrain himself.

"Not fair?" he repeated, his voice low and dangerous. "You speak of fairness when my own wife treats you with cruelty, when my concubines whisper poison behind your back, and yet you are the one who feels guilty for receiving my affection?"

He stood up abruptly, pacing back toward the fireplace with frustrated energy. "Fairness has nothing to do with this. I am the Emperor - my love is not something to be measured out equally like rice at a banquet."

Chang Hao turned back to face her, his dark eyes blazing in the firelight.

I lowered my head, shamefaced* "Forgive me, Your Majesty, I did not mean to offend," *I whispered, retreating slightly*.

Emperor Lee Chang Hao's frustration evaporated instantly at the sight of Bella lowering her head in submission. He strode back to the couch and gently took her chin in his hand, forcing her to meet his gaze.

"There is nothing to forgive," he said softly, his thumb brushing across her lower lip. "Your honesty is one of your most precious qualities. Even when it angers me, I would never punish you for speaking your mind."

His grip on her chin loosened as he sat beside her again, his earlier tension melting away. "But you must understand something - my affection for you is not a choice I've made lightly. It is not something I can simply turn off because it causes jealousy among my other wives."

Chang Hao's voice grew quieter, more intimate.

Emperor Lee Chang Hao cleared his throat, the sound seeming loud in the sudden silence of the study. He stood, his movements graceful and deliberate as he walked toward a hidden door behind his desk.

"I will be having a bath at my own private showers," he said, his voice regaining its imperial authority even as it softened with intimacy. "I would like you to join me."

His dark eyes met hers over his shoulder, a clear invitation in their depths. "It has been too long since we have shared such a simple pleasure. Come, my little dragon. Let me wash away the tension of this day from both of us."

He didn't wait for her answer, simply opening the hidden door to reveal a short corridor leading to his private bath chambers. Steam already drifted from the opening, carrying the scent of exotic spices and hot water.

"I will be waiting for you," Chang Hao called back as he disappeared into the corridor.
