Chapter 5 - The Apex of Nothingness

The mutated Hobgoblin Boss roared, its voice shaking the very foundations of the dungeon. Its skin was mottled black and blue, glowing with a distorted mana. Its eyes, normally red with malice, now burned with the same cold blue energy that marked the 'Players' chosen by the System.

[Monster: Mutated Hobgoblin Chieftain (Rank D - Enhanced)] [Warning: The Administrator has intervened. This target is designed for 'Player' elimination.]

Ren stood his ground, bare-handed. His old bronze dagger lay uselessly on the ground, a relic of his former weakness. The Hobgoblin lunged, its massive club, crackling with blue lightning, aimed for Ren's head.

[Passive Skill: Mana Nullification (Low-Tier) Activated.]

The club struck Ren's forehead, but instead of crushing his skull, the blue lightning dissipated into black smoke. The impact was still brutal, throwing Ren against the cave wall, but the magic had no effect.

"You can't use magic against me," Ren whispered, sliding down the wall. "Because I'm the one who makes magic... disappear."

The Hobgoblin paused, confusion flickering in its mutated eyes. It had never encountered anything like this. Every blow, every spell it unleashed, seemed to just vanish around this human.

Ren pushed himself off the wall, a dark smile spreading across his face. This wasn't about strength or speed. This was about erasing.

[Skill: 'Gaze of the Abyss' Activated.]

Ren's eyes glowed with swirling blackness. He didn't just see the Hobgoblin; he saw the threads of mana that held its form together, the very fabric of its existence. He saw the weak points, not of its body, but of its 'being'.

"Void Step," Ren commanded.

He didn't move. The space around him folded. One moment, he was against the wall; the next, he was directly behind the massive Hobgoblin. He was not teleporting; he was temporarily deleting the space between two points.

[Skill: 'Void Step' Activated.]

The Hobgoblin whirled around, but Ren was already moving. He slammed his palm onto the monster's back.

[Skill: 'Void Devour' Activated - Overload!]

This time, Ren didn't just drain its mana. A powerful vortex of absolute nothingness erupted from his hand, not just consuming mana, but tearing at the very essence of the monster's form. The Hobgoblin's roar turned into a gurgle as its body began to dissolve. Its armor, its muscles, even its bones—all turned into grey ash, absorbed into Ren's void.

[Target: Mutated Hobgoblin Chieftain (Rank D - Enhanced) has been Nullified.] [Experience Gained: +2000 XP] [Level Up!] [Level Up!] [Current Level: 4]

[Hidden Quest Completed: Survive the Administrator's Purge.] [Reward: Skill Evolution - 'Void Devour' can now consume 'Abilities'.]

Ren stood alone in the dust-filled cavern. The cave floor was spotless; no trace of the Hobgoblin remained. The [Daily Quest] had been completed multiple times over. He felt a profound sense of satisfaction, a cold power flowing through his veins.

But then, a red warning flashed in his vision.

[Alert: A high-tier 'Player' has entered the dungeon. Their mana signature is disrupting the Void's stability.]

Ren turned his head towards the entrance of the gate. Another human had stepped into his hunting ground.

"Another one of you?" Ren muttered, his voice a low, dangerous growl. "Trying to play hero in my game?"

He could feel it now—a powerful, familiar mana signature. It wasn't just any hunter. It was Sung Jin-Woo, the other survivor of the Double Dungeon, who had also just emerged from the hospital.

The Void Monarch and the Shadow Monarch were about to cross paths.
