Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Someone Who Knows

The person she didn't expect to notice—did.

It was during afternoon practice, when most students had already left the campus. The hallway near the old auditorium was quiet, echoing only with distant footsteps.

She was reaching for the door when a voice stopped her.

"You don't belong here."

She turned slowly.

It was Professor Han—the advisor who oversaw special academic placements. His reputation was simple: observant, fair, and impossible to deceive.

"I'm allowed to use this room," she replied evenly.

"That's not what I meant," he said, eyes sharp but not unkind. "You're hiding something bigger than grades."

She said nothing.

He sighed softly. "I've seen students like you before. Not many. People who carry more than they should at their age."

Lucien, who had been waiting a short distance away, stiffened.

Professor Han glanced at him. "You too. Stay."

That surprised both of them.

Inside the room, the door closed quietly behind them.

"I won't ask you to explain everything," Professor Han said. "But I need to know one thing."

He looked directly at her.

"Are you a danger to this school's integrity?"

She met his gaze.

"No," she answered without hesitation. "But I may be inconvenient."

A pause.

Then, unexpectedly, Professor Han smiled faintly.

"Inconvenient people often change things for the better."

Lucien exhaled slowly.

"I won't report rumors," the professor continued. "But be aware—others are less patient than I am."

She nodded. "Thank you."

As they left the room, Lucien spoke quietly.

"You trusted him."

"I had to," she replied. "The truth can't stay locked forever. It needs the right door."

That evening, Lucien walked her to the gate.

The sky was dimming, clouds stretched thin like painted lines.

"Are you scared?" he asked.

She considered it. "No. I think I'm ready."

"For what?"

"For someone to finally see me as I am," she said. "Not what they want me to be."

Lucien stopped walking.

"Then listen carefully," he said. "No matter who finds out next—teacher, student, media—I'll be there. That's not a promise I plan to break."

She looked at him, heart steady.

"I know."

Behind them, lights flickered on across campus.

One person knew now.

Soon, others would follow.

And when the truth stepped fully into the open, it would no longer belong to whispers.
