Chapter 23 - Momentary Reflection

She was horrified at the sight before her bodies laid on top of one another, children crying, women stunned, men searching, and their close ones in the pile of humans before them. It was as if the war that was happening miles away at the border had somehow been fought in Alliet. Elora felt her stomach churn at the sight. The world seemed to be spinning for a while. She almost stumbled but managed to regain her footing. She could barely keep her eyes on the disaster before her.

As She stepped forward, a flash of blue light spread around her. The nearby people, at least the ones that were breathing, felt a miraculous calm, as if they were in the ocean with its cold waters slowly enveloping them. Slow and steady, the ones alive were healing. gradually, still sullen with their great loss, the people couldn't help but admire. They were stunned an Angel had descended to save them, only that this Angel wasn't overflowing with kindness like in the holy text. This Angel healed them not for pity, not for sorrow. She did so because they were there, and because she could afford to help them without a great cost. She didn't look kind enough to weep and bless the sorrows spread across this land, but she sure did what she could. For the ones before her. Only one condition remained that the price to pay was not too great.

Elora could feel the weakening of her body. She had never used her magic on such a wide scale before. She might have even ignored the masses, but she saw the reflection of the people most important to her closest to her. In them she saw an Oasis, a Laura, the flower girl on the West Street. The lonely and poor seamstress. Nelda people from all walks of her life in them?

And the people before them. They saw the Angel, they admired her but also lamented fate that the Angel had not come before the disaster, she couldn't save all those that had long departed in between the small interval of the disaster and her arrival.
