Chapter 169 - Chapter 169: Strengthening Power

After Cana's request to become stronger, Hope pondered for a moment, deciding it was time to give his guildmates a round of power-ups.

Activating the "second magic source."

Utilizing the 'Ancient Texts' to transmit the techniques and application of the magic he mastered to individuals, helping them further develop their magic.

Either of these two methods would allow the Guild members' strength to increase, giving them much more confidence when going out to fight or complete quests.

Hope immediately found Makarov and shared his idea.

"Huh? You said you want to help everyone increase their strength?"

Makarov lightly patted his face.

Accompanied by Laxus, the little old man was drunk; it had been a long time since he had sat down and had a good meal with his beloved grandson like this.

Since he was happy for once, he drank a bit more.

Ignoring Laxus, who was still giving him a sour look, Hope applied a sobering effect to Makarov and said, "Guild Master, Rogue Cheney Senior passed on all his magic knowledge to me. He was a Master Mage from 400 years ago..."

Makarov, having sobered up from his drunken state, understood Hope's meaning.

Many of the spells now known as "Lost Magic" were created 400 years ago, during that era of burgeoning genius.

As one of the outstanding figures of that era, Rogue Cheney's insight and knowledge would certainly be enough to overwhelm the vast majority of Mages today.

Laxus snorted inappropriately, "I don't care for power given by others."

Looking at Laxus, who clearly disdained his proposal, Hope grinned and casually pulled out a Recording Magic Crystal from the Armor Magic Circle.

"You're getting tsundere again, aren't you? Don't blame me then..."

"I'm sorry, I was too arrogant."

Laxus, whose weakness had been seized, instantly slid into a kneeling apology. There was nothing he could do; when under someone else's roof, one must bow their head.

Seeing him apologize so obediently, Hope's mouth twitched.

Had he been too harsh on Laxus before, giving the kid psychological trauma?..."Um, I still like your previous rebellious look. Please revert."

"Bastard! Don't push your luck!"

Seeing that Laxus's temper was still explosive, Hope breathed a sigh of relief. He still dared to talk back, so it seemed the person was fine.

Putting away the Recording Magic Crystal, Hope looked at Makarov. "Among the knowledge passed down by Rogue Cheney Senior, there is an ancient Lost Magic called 'Law,' which operates exactly the same way as our 'Fairy Law.'"

Makarov nodded. "The Second Guild Master once told me that 'Fairy Law' is actually the incomplete 'Lost Magic: Law.'"

"100 years ago, while fighting Blue Skull, the first Guild Master Mavis forcibly used the incomplete Law to save my father, causing her body to stop aging and preventing her from ever completing 'Law.'"

Laxus pricked up his ears. So this was the story behind 'Fairy Law.'

Hope, on the other hand, admired the courage of the first Guild Master for forcibly using an incomplete spell, which carried immense risk.

But it was precisely because of this risk that Mavis could not continue to complete her magic. Although the remaining 'Fairy Law' was no less powerful than the original 'Law,' it possessed a potentially fatal flaw.

That is, it consumes the caster's life force.

Hope spoke slowly, "Guild Master, what if I told you that I could use the 'Ancient Texts' to complete 'Fairy Law' and eliminate its original side effect?"

"Really?!" Makarov's eyes lit up.

Laxus also glanced at Hope, a hint of surprise in his eyes.

The only three people in the entire Guild who mastered 'Fairy Law' were now staring at each other.

Under their gazes, Hope slowly nodded. "Absolutely guaranteed. Furthermore, the completed 'Fairy Law' can increase its power by at least another ten percent."

With Hope's assurance, Makarov was overjoyed.

Laxus, however, was thinking that in future battles, he wouldn't have to save the Guild's Super Magic as a trump card; he could just open with 'Fairy Law' against troublesome enemies.

Instant kill—how cool would that be~

Makarov immediately paused the Banquet and announced the news that Hope was going to enhance everyone's strength.

Although some didn't fully understand, everyone grasped one point.

The "second magic source" can enhance magic power.

The 'Ancient Texts' can strengthen magic.

Why bother riding a bicycle? They're going to take off!

In an instant, the excited crowd couldn't continue the Banquet and immediately surrounded Hope. Hope, who had planned to start the next day, was forced by their unstoppable enthusiasm to start operating now... But Hope would not casually activate the second magic source for just anyone.

Only those who became A-Rank Mages of the Guild were qualified.

As the strongest group below S-Rank, the magic power of most A-Rank Mages had reached the limit for their current age. If they wanted to improve their strength but lacked a serendipitous encounter, they would basically have to rely on seniority.

The "second magic source" undoubtedly brought them the dawn of continued progress.

As for why it wasn't open to others, Hope could only say that rushing things was not a good idea; forcibly activating the second magic source would only place a huge burden on a weaker person's body.

The Guild members were reasonable people; not only did they refrain from demanding the second magic source, but they also gained motivation to become stronger.

Because of the Harvest Festival celebration, the Guild's A-Rank Mages were gathered together—a rare occurrence. Except for Mest, who was still miserably working as an undercover agent, everyone else was present.

Therefore, Hope decided to activate the second magic source for all A-Rank Mages tonight.

Since Natsu and Gray had already started, the members participating in the second magic source activation included: the three members of the Thunder God Tribe, Elfman, Cana, Macao, Wakaba, and Gajeel and Juvia, who were newly joined and temporarily unranked.

On the large lawn in the Guild's backyard, Cana, watching the large 'Arc of Time' Magic Circle being inscribed, felt a sudden unease and reached out to grab Erza.

"Erza, is it true what you said about it hurting just a little bit?"

"Hahaha, of course! Just a *tiny* bit..."

Erza wore a gentle smile, tricking Cana just as she had tricked Lucy before. While good fortune isn't always shared, she certainly couldn't let Cana miss out on the suffering.

Seeing Erza's dark, Mira-like smile, Cana felt even more uncertain. It was just one hug to Hope, was that reason enough to be so petty?..."Everyone get ready, I'm starting."

Hope finished drawing the Magic Circle and, watched by the rest of the crowd, activated the 'Arc of Time.'

Instantly, screams rang out incessantly.
